Cold Arctic Air mass Jan 3rd Taken in the fields West of my house.
Cold West and Northwest Winds blowing across this field above can and does bring some of the harshest winter conditions, our house sits on top of a large series of hills, which makes our house a target for the full force of Westerly and Northwesterly winds, In this picture, I am standing at the top of one of the hills, The land starts descending downward behind me in this picture, We live on the Highest point in the Village of Clayton, Some day, I will take a picture and show everyone what it looks like from the bottom of all these hills.
A Cold High pressure brought down some Very cold air for this weekend, lows were sent well below zero in the -20s and Highs in some places didn't even get above zero! Wind Chills on Saturday were Very cold close to -40 in some locations. All of this Cold air was brought down by a high pressure system, and Northwest winds coming strait out of Canada. Temperatures reported Below.
This is a list of Coldest temperatures reported during the entire weekend, Some may not be the actual coldest temp reported because I didn't get to view the data before it cleared, But I think this is very close, Regular cold spots like Grantsburg and Osceola, were very cold, Grantsburg was nearly -30 Below Zero! At my location Saturday Morning was the coldest, when it was -20.F for the low, Sunday Morning was -15.F at my location, on Saturday our high temp was only 2.F!
Cool temperatures will continue through this entire week, with highs maybe near the low teens, Lows will likely be below zero every night, A second cold wave of air will arrive late this week around Friday, Welcome to January!

Really? You guys were that cold?!?
I had -5.4 yesterday morning and 5.3 this morning. We did have a north breeze off the big Lake and clouds/lake-effect flurries, those must have kept us warmer.
Stay warm! :)
Nothing extreme over here. Our coldest temps came yesterday and the day before. Lowest only getting down to -3.1
I like the photo!
