Winter snowfall amounts, and rain amounts so far

This past winter was snowier then average, I recorded 61.75 inch's of snow, during the winter season. the average winter snowfall for Clayton,WI is 49.0 inches looks like the wet weather is continuing. we got 2.80 inches of Rain this April that's above the average of 2.61 inches and we got 4.50 inches of snow this April, the average snowfall for April is just 2.0 inch's, this is good news though, the lakes and streams are finely coming back to a normal levels. Camellia Lake, seems to be back to a normal leavel, good news for people who want to go fishing! hopefully were done with snow for the season.

Warmer temps

Image from http://www.crh.noaa.gov/mpx/

After yesterday, with clouds and highs only in the upper 30s, we will have sunny weather for today with highs in the low 50s. the freezing temperatures we have had the past few days has damaged some of the growing trees. It looks like lows tonight will be at or around freezing so it will not be as bad as last night. looks like warming temps as we head farther into the week with near 60s be Wednesday, then some chances for showers and thunderstorms.

Thunderstorms early this morning

Temps yesterday were REALLY nice, most places got into the mid to upper 70s
before some thunderstorms moved in. The first storms moved in at around 8PM
there was some lighting with this, some places in St Croix County got some small hail, then early Tuesday morning the storms really started to get heavy, lots of lighting and loudthunder, really heavy rain, the power here went out for about 10 seconds, because oflighting hitting a power pole somewhere, we ended up getting 0.78 of soaking rainhere in Clayton, here is some short video I took of the storms this morning at about 1AM at my house.

April 22 Clayton,WI

The rain last night really got this Crocus to flower, the is the first flower of the season in my garden. I will get a better photo when it opens, now all we need some sun and the flower will open. looks like things will clear out later Tuesday afternoon then sunny weather again Wednesday with highs in the 70s again! before more storms move in Wednesday night and Thursday something to watch, because some may be storm to severe.

Monday, April 21, 2008

Image from http://www.crh.noaa.gov/mpx/

Thunderstorms will be moving into the area later today, with heavy rain possible, looks like the most rain will fall in Polk and Burnett counties, few of the storms could have some hail in it, along with that heavy rain.
Image from http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/day1otlk.html Mondays Severe Hail chances

looks like some of the storms could have some hail as they move though, nothing too big in the way of severe weather, just hail and heavy rain, but there is still a chance that few storms could become severe, but hail is the main threat, nothing too large, will be a good day to sit back and watch the storms move though.

Very windy system

Wind Dammage 1 s Clayton taken April 12th
Wind damage taken April 12th Clayton,WI

We had a strong storm system come though, it
started on Thursday as Rain, then turned to heavy wet snow, the snow stuck to anything wet and froze, making the trees heavy very fast. There was lighting with the sleet/snow on Thursday night! The winds with this system were 30+ MPH highest gust at my place was 35MPH there was some minor tree damage in our yard ( picture above) this branch is 1.50 in diameter, but as we drove around the area I seen lots of large whole spruce Branch's down, The worst damage I saw was a full grown Aspen tree went down in my aunts lawn ( in picture above) the tree snapped right off at the base! The heavy snow and high winds was too much. Snow accumulation with the storm was 3.5 inch's here with as much as 8 inch's just to the north. here is some snowfall reports

Sarona,WI 10.5 inch's
Rice Lake,WI 8.0 inch's
Grantsburg,WI 7.0 inch's
Clayton,WI 3.50 inch's

Spring Snowstorm

Picutre taken April 1st Clayton,WI

The snowstorm has ended, and dumped 6+ inch's of snow over Western Wisconsin. it was 32.F most of the time when the snow was falling. so the snow is Extremely wet and heavy, just a soupy Slush!, but even though it was wet, it still blew all around, and made Huge drifts!. You cant really tell in the picutre I took, but it is clear outside right now, and with the sunshine today this snow will be melting fast!, I may take pictures later today to show the difference. Later on this week temps are going to be near 50,F! so snow will not be lasting to long. Here are some snowfall reports across the area from this storm,

7.2" Sarona,WI
7.0" Rice Lake,WI
7.0" Clayton,WI
6.8" Hammond,WI
4.0" Menomonie,WI
