Daffodil in bloom!

first Daffodil to bloom in my Daffodil project, April 26th

Well there you have it The first daffodil to bloom in my garden of 2009 from my Daffodil Project, and it sure picked a cool wet day to open. I will explain once again about the Daffodil Project. I am actually unable to grow daffodils in the ground over winter, They always end up mush in the spring, I have tried many times, so I came up with the idea of putting them in a fridge over winter, then plant them in the spring and it works GREAT for me. Although there is one thing I noticed. My daffodils do bloom a bit later then others around the area, there about a week or more later, but I don't mine. We still got awhile before they will be in Full bloom, so Expect more pictures as the days go by. Lets take note of something, Last year I kept track of planting a blooming times of my daffodil project, Last year I planted them April 5, 2008 and the first bloom came in on May 1st, 2008 This year we had an earlier snow melt so I was able to plant March 21, 2009 and now there blooming on April 26, 2009 so there only about a week earlier then last year. I would also like to say I added Tulips to the project this year, So far they are turning out good, should be blooming soon. Enjoy the pictures!

Rain likely Sunday

Weathermap for Sunday and Monday.

It looks like some much needed rain is in the forecast for Sunday, A strong system from the south will move north, which will bring widespread showers and a few thunderstorms, Some of the rain may be moderate at times, especially in the Western and northwestern areas. Most of our chance for severe weather has passed, but there still is the potential for a strong or severe storm, as long as we stay on the "warm" side of the low, so just take note that the chance is there, The main threat would just be some hail. Besides this just expect much needed rain showers with a few thunderstorms. this storm system will be strong enough to give us some gusty southeast winds. Highs will be cooler because of the rainfall and clouds, only in the 50s Sunday with lows in the 40s. Monday clouds should start to clear sometime during the day, I am saying highs will be in the 50s, But it may be kinda cool Monday night with the drier air, Upper 30s look like a good bet. detailed forecast below.

Sunday, a good chance of rain showers and thunderstorms, some rain could be moderate with gusty southeast winds, expect highs to be in the low 50s, and lows in the low 40s.

Monday partly sunny at first then some clearing, highs in the low 50s Lows will be cooler due to drier air Expect lows in the upper 30s to low 40s.

Ahead weather shows some dry weather and warmer temps sunshine moves back in Tuesday and Wednesday before more chances for showers and thunderstorms comes again late next week.

Very warm temps and strong storms.

Rolling Thunderhead just to the east of my house.

Today started out Very warm and humid Some places had there first 80.F degree readings of the season some Some places of the southern counties even reached the upper 80s ahead of a cold front that later produced strong storms. Here is a list of of the high temperatures reached across the area today, Menomonie 88.F, Amery 81.F, Osceola 81.F, Rice Lake 79.F, Clayton 78.F, Woodville 77.F, Spooner 73.F, Siren 70.F.

Pea sized hail. ( measured next to a dime )

Today's weather started off as Isolated storms in the afternoon one ended up Severe Warned in Southern Dunn county, but there was no reports of severe conditions. After 7PM storms really began to pop, The were scattered and numerous First then formed in western Barron county, then formed as far west as Amery. There were definitely a few strong ones on the radar, One was located just to the northwest of Dallas and the other was just southwest of Menomonie, The radar was detecting some hail, There was one report of penny sized hail North of Menomonie. Southern parts of the area actually saw some nice soaking rains and thunderstorms Southeast St Croix County, and Central Dunn County and Southeast Barron county saw the most rain, weather radar indicates that as much as 1 inch of rain fell in the Glenwood City to Sand Creek areas. While most of the area northwest of Dunn county reported less then .10

Here in Clayton, we had a couple a short downpours with 2 small storms with pea sized hail, There was also quite a bit of lightning flashes in these spot storms we got a total 0.2 of rain. We could definitely use some more.

Weather for Saturday is expected to be wet with scattered showers with highs in the 50s, For a full forecast please see the post Below. It is unclear at this time but it appears that another chance for Severe Thunderstorms may arrive by Sunday. It also looks like we just might get some heavier Rainfall Sunday. I may need to do a updated forecast for Sunday.

Green-Up photos!

Crocus Bloom April 21st

The weather over the past few days has changed a lot, on Friday Most places had there first 70+ Degree reading of the season, My weather station report 72.F on Friday, Then by Sunday things cooled down quite a bit under cloudy skies and rainy weather, Rain which was much needed for most places, Highs were only in the 40s Sunday and Monday, There were even a few snow flurries early Monday morning which I saw, It did not make any accumulation. Now I will talk about the green up, Even with the cool weather the past 2 days, These Crocus which started blooming on Thursday the 16th did well and everything is continue to green up, More Crocus starting opening up today the 21s, Here is a interesting fast, If you have a good memory you would Remember last year I Talked about Crocus blooming the 22nd of April, So were heading for the same pattern as last year? The Yellow Crocus is still yet to come out. I seen Crocus are in bloom all across the local area, Also Daffodils in warm/ protected spots are blooming too, My daffodils in my Project 2009, have not bloomed yet, But buds are already clearly visible.
Lilaces Buds, April 21st
Our green-up process is happening quickly, Especially with the past rainfall, Early trees are shrubs are already leafing out, but Late trees are only just starting to break buds, Many people across the area also noticed how fast the grass is greening up.

Weeping Willow buds April 21st
Pretty soon this Weeping Willow will be in flower they in about a week or too The flowers looks like Yellow catkins, They have a very nice sweet smell. In the early leaf out process it is easy to tell you have a Weeping willow but just looking at the landscape Because weeping willows are one of the very first trees to leaf out, you can just look out and spot the light green trees. I noticed this on our way though Madison,WI I could easily seen the light green trees, when the other trees were still bare.

Back to normal, Forcast.

Weathermap for Tonight, Wednesday and Thursday.

We actually have some stuff to talk about this time, First is the cool temps that we are having now, We are in a small short cool northwest flow behind a wintry system to the east, This caused temps to be in the 40s the past 2 days, but the Rain was Nice! 0.75 here in Clayton over the past few days. Tuesday Night, temps will be cool again, lows will fall into the low to mid 30s, Best chances of temps falling below freezing in the North.

By Wednesday we will begin a warm-up pattern, Highs will reach the low 60s in many places but some places may stick to the upper 50s, with Sunshine, Lows will be Much warmer then Tuesday Night, lows Wednesday Night will be in the upper 30s to low 40s. Lets talk about Thursday! Because at this point it is looking Very nice, possible the warmest day of the year so-far, If skies stay sunny we could reach the mid 70s! possible even low 80s, but that's on the Wishful thinking side, but chances for 80s are there. We will begin a wetter pattern Thursday there will be a chance for a few showers Thursday during the day. Detailed forecast below.

Wednesday, Partly cloudy, highs in the low 60s Wednesday Night partly cloudy lows in the upper 30s to low 40s.

Thursday Nice! Warm! highs 70s, Mid 70s look like the best bet right now, a chance of light showers. Thursday Night, mostly cloudy, with lows Mild in the upper 40s to low 50s.

Looking Ahead, The warm pattern Thursday will continue Friday, and with a low pressure system approaching, we may have the chance to see our first Severe Weather of the season, across the area. Something to watch closely, looks like weather will stay wet after Saturday, with off and on chances for showers and thunderstorms. Temps look to be in the 60s to 50s low temps will stay in the 40s to upper 30s.

Nice for the rest of the weekend!

Weathermap for Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

It is actually looking very nice for the rest of the weekend. Sunshine and warm temperatures into the Mid 50s I would not be surprised to hear of some upper 50s in warm spots. The air overhead it very dry, which has been helping our nights fall below freezing, our nigh time lows will start to warm up a but into the 30s, with upper 20s north still. Winds look a little breezy some points during the weekend. Monday is when we might be dealing with some clouds I can see a system nearby which may bring some clouds later in the day, it would also keep day times highs in the low 50s if we do get clouds. I just wanted to make a statement that, warm temps over this past week have opened up area lakes, area lakes are now Ice free. Detailed forecast below

Saturday, Full sunshine, Nice and warm! Highs in the mid 50s Get out and enjoy it! Saturday Night, Clear to partly cloudy, lows right around 30.F

Sunday, Partly Cloudy and Nice and Warm! Highs in the mid 50s, again Enjoy this weather! Sunday Night, A bit warmer Maby some places staying above freezing. but mainly lows will be around 30

Monday, Sunny to start out the day, with some clouds pulling in later, If clouds do form, we will have a cooler day with highs in the low 50s, If skies stay sunny mid to upper 50s would be possible. Monday Night, cloudy, lows in the low to mid 30s.

Looking ahead, I do see some possible light preipatation which looks to be Rain to me. which would fall on Tuesday, Then after that it looks to be dry again, with Very pleasant temps though Friday, a couple of times we may reach the Mid 50s t0 near 60. We could still get wet between that time a system may decised to come this way. I would also like to make a statement, I will be Taking a trip to Southern lower Michigan Thursday though Saturday. But I will make sure my forecasted is updated. More on the warm weather for this week later.

Looking nice the next few days!

Weathermap for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Weather for the next 3 days actually looks nice and Dry, even some bright sunshine, High pressure will keep weather dry, There may be some areas of clouds over some spots on Wednesday, but Thursday and Friday should be nice and sunny, Cooling Northwest winds will make it feel a bit cool. Even with the cool winds, Temperatures look nice during the next few days, Upper 40s to near 50 looks to be a good bet all 3 days, But the air will be dry, so with the dry air nights will still cool off below freezing for most areas, With some of the areas that tend to be warmer may stay above freezing. Detailed forecast below

Wednesday, areas of clouds, cooling northwest winds, Highs in the mid 40s, areas with more sun upper 40s would be possible. Wednesday Night, cool, Lows in the upper 20s to 30.

Minnesota Grass Fire

Photo Taken around 2:30PM ( Sorry about the bad quality. )

There was grass Fire in Minnesota today, North of the Major part of the Minneapolis/St Paul Metro, According to KSTP5 news, 7 homes had to be evacuated due to the fire, but no one was hurt, Smoke from the fire could be seen as far away as Western Wisconsin, people who had a good Western view, could clearly see the smoke. The smoke could be seen pretty good here in southeast Polk County, I was out taking pictures today after 2PM and I saw what almost looked like storm clouds to the West, but I knew there was no storms out there, so I decided to take a picture Because I never seen something like that in the sky before, You can kinda see the whitish mass here in this photo I took. Then later in the afternoon I looked at the Radar, and I could clearly see something on Radar
GRleveaL3 Radar shot taken at 3PM

There was no actual preip falling anywhere, This Fire was so large, and Smoke rose so high, could be detected on Radar, which is shown as Precipitation here, You can clearly see the blue and green in southeast Anoka County,MN streching all the way down to Hastings,MN, to the west of the area. smoke was blown be strong north, north west winds, Here is an Article from KSTP5 in St Paul,MN Which has more on the fire.

Early Spring Photos

Frogs Signing in the pond behind our house April 6th

The Early Spring season is in full swing! even though It's been kinda cool This past week, with 2 days with 1.0 inch of snowfall! ( April 1st and again on April 5th ) I thought I would show everyone springs progression here Might even help brighten some heavy moods people have been having, I started with a video of the frogs signing, During the end of March The ice completely melted off the ponds behind our house, Area Lakes still have some ice in the center of the lake, but the shorelines are Ice free, Including Lake Carmelia in Clayton, I'm guessing they will be ice free within the week. Each day in our ice free ponds I hear more and more frogs signing, It started off as a couple, now it seems there are many signing away, I have also included some pictures of the many plants that have started to grow already, I will need to clean gardens this week, and get rid of the old dead foliage.

Tulips/Daffodils April 6th

Here is a photo of the Tulips and Daffodils in the garden from my Fridge project. They are greening up quickly with the bright sunshine! These have while to go before they will bloom. I have taken note of when I planted Daffodils in the ground from my fridge last year, and it was on April 4Th 2008, This year I planted the daffodils above on March 21st, much earlier then last year, and I planted the Tulips above on April 3rd.

Day lilies April 6th

Day lilies that have not been fazed by the cool temps! These are pretty brave, There coming up right though the dead foliage I still have to clean out, Many people have said you cannot kill these hardy plants.

Crocus April 6th

Crocus in our front yard, Some people may remember these bloomed in Mid April, It looks like there heading for the same time this year, Although these might not bloom because they have not been separated in 5 years, but I still may get surprised! I will post pictures if the bloom. Weather forecast does call for warmer temps this week, Especially into this weekend, We might even have 60 degree temps for the second time this year.

Cool now, snow chances, Warmer soon!

Weathermap for Sunday, Monday, and looking ahead forecast to Tuesday.
A low pressure system will effect parts of the area with snow, Mainly the southern areas will be effected, there May be some minor accumulations, Menomonie, Downsvills, River Falls, North to New Richmond, Boyceville, Colfax areas have the Best chances of seeing an inch. The snow may go as far north as a line from St Croix Falls to Barron to Cameron line. Areas north of the St Croix/Polk, Barron/Dunn county lines may see up to a half inch. North of There, Siren, Spooner and Minong areas wont see any snow at all. Temps will be Very cool for this time of year, only low 30s for Sunday, Might actually be warmer in the northern areas ,especially if that area breaks into sunshine, I would guess if they did mid to upper 30s would be possible there. Tuesday it will be much warmer for the entire area, with sunshine and temps in the 40s, Detailed forecast below.

Sunday, Cool, Snow in the southern areas Minor accumulations, Highs in the low 30s, but upper 30s would be possible north if they break into sunshine. Sunday night, Chances for snow in the south, lows in the low to mid 20s.

Monday, A bit warmer but cool, a slight chance of light snow, highs in the mid 30s, Monday Night mostly cloudy to start then clearing, lows in the 20s.

Considering.

I have been considering some changes here at my blog. Over the past few months, I have monitored my blog, and I have noticed the comments have been very low for the past 3 months, and you all remember the poll I did on my blog, nearly half the people said they did not like the information seen on this blog.

But with a little more then half the people saying they liked the information, I decided to keep going, Anyway, I'm am unsure of how many people actually from my local forecast area actually view this blog, I have also noticed There are already other blogs covering this area, Over the next few weeks I will decide on either Changes, or the closing of this blog, This is just a post to notify everyone I'm going to really starting to start watching my blog closely to see how many people find this information useful. I will start by issuing a sires of polls. Again, this blog is for reports and forecasts for Burnett, Washburn, Polk, Barron, St Croix and Dunn counties. and also information about my hometown Clayton,WI, also some posts about my Gardening hobby.

Warmer, and dry.

Weathermap for Friday and Saturday.

Weather for Thursday will be partly cloudy to partly sunny, with highs in the low 40s.

Weather for the starting of the weekend will be fair, and dry. We will have off and on clouds, and warmer temps then it has been, highs in the 40s, lows will be very cool in the 20s. Detailed forecast below.

Friday, Partly cloudy to partly sunny, highs in the mid 40s, mid 40s are possible especially if we get more sunshine. Friday Night, partly cloudy, to cloudy, lows in the low to mid 20s.

Saturday, partly cloudy to cloudy, highs in the low to mid 40s. Saturday Night cloudy, maybe slight chance of snow late, lows in the mid 20s.

Looking Ahead, We do have a chance at some snow Sunday, Right now it looks like the most accumulations will happen in the south, maybe minor accumulations possible at this time, but if it shifts, we could be looking at quite a bit more snow, or nothing at all. After this snow, it looks like warmer and dry weather will move in with even a shot at 50.F around here by midweek. more on this later.

April Fools!!!!

Many people were probably surprised when they woke up to 1 to as much as 3 inches inch of wet snow on the ground! Even after moderate rain showers yesterday that dropped 0.22 of rain here in Clayton, Yesterday even hail was reported in the some strong showers across the area. Hail could have especially fell south of Osceola, I also saw some hail here, it was small hail, nothing severe of coarse. The reason for the snow is Cold air wrapped around the Low pressure system that is spinning across Minnesota and Wisconsin, The snow is very wet in nature. it is just a slush! The snow wont be lasting long, Temperatures will be in the 30s and 40s the next few days, Which is below average, but By Friday we should be looking at sunshine.

the April Fools Day snow sure fooled these daffodils growing on the south side of our house! Snow should be done falling by tonight, there should not be too much more accumulation but there could be a bit more.
