Landscapes of NW Wisconsin.

Here is a Cool Map that I put together. Showing the Different landscapes and trees types in the 6 county area! areas colored in Dark Red is where the landscape is more Sandy. and Where Red Pine and Jack pine tree stands are more common Also Birch and aspen are common there. The Green is the area where the Forest Transition is. This is where the Northern Forest to the North of the green, meets the Southern Forest to the south of the green. it is Where they Merge together So trees can range from All broad leaf forest to Pine trees. ( you can really see this in the Photos I took Below) This is also where you will see the most change in the tree types Which you can really tell if you drive from Clear Lake to Spooner area. The Orange is where the Western Prairie Is. There is less trees in this area, most trees are Broad leaf forest stands. You can really see the change from more Forested area to clear Prairie Lands when you drive from Clayton to New Richmond. The Yellow is where the Ridges and Coulees begin. This area of land has allot of steep hills and coulees. You can really see this change south of Ridgeland. less farmlands in these areas, because of all the steep hills, also most to all of the trees you will see here is broad leaf forest. the Blue is where some of the North Central Forest extends into Eastern Washburn and Barron counties.

White Pine Tree Stand in the woods North of our house, White Pine tree stands are more rare then they are common around Clayton. This one is mixed with some other broad leaf trees.

here is some Broad leafed trees the woods south of our house. This is what most of the Forests look like here. Allot of Maple in here. also Ash and Poplar.
Though there are Forest here. most of the land you see looks like this. Farmland and fields. more trees off to the west.

Enjoy this Sunny weather!

Very heavy rain and high winds hit the area

Very heavy rain July 19Th Clayton,WI

Very heavy rain hit the area Saturday afternoon. as a line of storms pushed in from the west Some of the storms were Severe. Here at Clayton. there was a big tree down in a field from strong winds, the highest wind gust on my weather station was 41MPH, we also had some small branches down in our yard. The Heavy rainfall was the big story on this storm in my area, we got over 1 inch of rain in about 40 minutes! You can even see the sheets of rain in the video above. The rain we got was much needed. There was Tornado Warnings issued to the west when the storms were forming, there were many areas of rotation, one went near Osceola.
When the storm was moving though here, the winds switched directions, from West to north. then northeast. Also it sounds like there is quite a Bit of wind damage in Southeast St Croix County. here are the damage reports

Rainy, but well below Average Rainfall for the season.

Cornfield Clayton,WI July 18Th

It has been wet lately but, We still need some more rain! over the past 2 days we only picked up 0.28 of rain just over a quarter inch. June and so far July has been quite Dry, June ended out over 1 inch below normal in rainfall, And so far this July we have only picked up 1.37 inches the Average for July is 3.93 inches nearly 4 inches of rain! Because of the lack of rain some creeks and streams are low, the Creek near my house is nearly gone, also the Ponds on our land are Very low,But some lakes are at some of there highest levels in years, for the last few years Lake Magnor, just south of Clayton, has been low but this year it is at a more Normal level, I also heard it has been much cleaner with less Algae! The reason the lakes are higher then last year is because of the Wet spring we had, and Above normal winter snowfall. The weather has gotten more active over the past few weeks which is great news! But we could use Rain because we are over 3 inches behind in rainfall. It has been wetter this year, and it's been raining more frequent. The corn looks like some of best corn I've seen. thankfully the rain has been frequent enough to keep the corn from drying up. We have not had too much rain here, But some places have gotten of 1 inch of rain these past few days, Hopefully the rain keeps coming.

Lilies Clayton,WI July 18Th

Flowers are looking great! My garden has never had so many blooming flowers!

Here is a Miniature rose I got from Becker's Store in Turtle Lake after Valentines day ( when they went on sale ), I bought the rose to see what it would do planted in the ground, it is looking great! and a cheap way for roses! I also have Yellow, Orange, and Red roses that I bought from the same store, last winter.
