Artic Sunshine


Today we have Artic Sunshine! not a cloud in the sky, it is Very cold this morning, big changes in the weather happen between today and Monday. it was 45.F on Monday Afternoon, and today the NWS forecast called for high around -1.F that is a huge change, Average high is 21.F and the Average low is 0.F Last night it was very cold, lows were in the teens below zero with wind chills in the -40s below to mid -40s below zero! it was not a night to in joy being outdoors, here is some reports of the coldest temperatures Monday night and Tuesday Morning

Weather story of the day is the Cold temperatures, which will not even get above zero. The NWS says highs this afternoon will in the upper -0s. Tomorrow we will have a change start to happen highs tomorrow will be in the low teens to upper single digits! with partly sunny skies, that sounds good compared to what we have now

Just a quick update , we had Very mild temperatures this afternoon, take a look at the reports of temperature's Monday after noon Avg high is 21.F

A strong cold front is moving into the area, and will plow into this Mild air we have now, we will have high temps into the low 40s today! As the front goes though Tuesday morning, there will be a period of light freezing rain and snow, snow could accumulate to 1-2 inch's along with the snow there will also be dropping temperatures and Strong winds up to 40 MPH. Later Tuesday afternoon as the wind chills drop as low as -20.F to -35.F. If the snow accumulates we will have nasty weather Tuesday with Strong winds and blowing snow.

Snow will be possible today, with the warmer air that's coming. And looking ahead to next week
shows a chance of freezing rain and temperatures well above average in the low 30s!

a Closer look shows, the best chance of snow is from Chetek to Prairie Farm to Hudson below the Gray line 1 inch of snow is possible north of that line less then 1 inch, still all places should get some light snow today or tonight.

Weather story of the day is the warmer tempetures coming for tomorrow! the cold artic high pressure will move off and warm air will move in behind it also a pretty good chance at light snow.

Here is a photo of a lilac bush with frost only on one part!, Cold Temperatures is was caused this, Here is what happened, We have a wood burning stove, and with the cold temperatures last night around -16.F and clear skies, The smoke coming out of the wood burning stove was warm and moist, this caused frost only to form where the smoke came in contact with the branch's!!!

Very Cold Weather

Wind Chill Warnings

We have bitterly cold weather today, currently it is 2.8.F here in Clayton,WI and getting colder! temperatures will likely be below zero by 5PM with highs staying below zero though Saturday for all of the area!, as you can see in this photo taken by me we have clear skies.



Wind Chill Advisory is in effect for Polk ( my county) Barron,St Croix,Dunn Washburn and Burnett counties. ...DANGEROUS WIND CHILLS LOOK TO IMPACT MUCH OF THE REGION STARTING FRIDAY STRONG NORTHWEST WINDS OF 20 TO 30 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS WILL ACCOMPANY MUCH COLDER AIR INTO THE REGION TODAY. WIND CHILLS WILL FALL TO THE BITTERLY COLD 25 TO 45 BELOW ZERO RANGE TONIGHT ACROSS MUCH OF WESTERN AND CENTRAL MINNESOTA AND WESTERN WISCONSIN. THESE DANGEROUS WIND CHILLS ARE ANTICIPATED TO LAST THROUGH THE DAY SATURDAY THEREFORE A WINDCHILL ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR WESTERN MINNESOTA BEGINNING AT 6AM TODAY AND FOR MUCH OF EASTERN MINNESOTA AND WESTERN WISCONSIN BEGINNING AT 6 PM THIS EVENING. AND LASTING THOUGH THE DAY SATURDAY.

Snow tonight



Snow will be likely tonight for NW Wisconsin, Clayton should get around 2-3 inch's with 3-4 inch's just southeast of here, around Eau Claire,WI, As you can see on the map by http://www.spc.noaa.gov/ . Behind this system is Very Cold Air, this cold air will begin to move in by tomorrow with a highs in the mid to upper teens across the area, then highs in the single digits below zero for Saturday! and the cold air will stick around into next week Please check back for updates on tonight snowfall, and updates on the cold blast coming.

Clear and Cold weather is in Place in the southern area this morning. we drop ed to a low of 5.F here at Clayton with lower single digits everywhere in the south As you can see in the photo above there is some clouds to our west. thoughs should fill in today, giveing us mostly cloudy skies later on. then a slight chance of snow just 20% chance the NWS says Lows tonight will be in the lower single digits once again, the NWS( http://www.spc.noaa.gov/ ) lows calls for

We had cold clear weather but up northern area they has clouds and snow! tempetures were actually much warmer there. at around 9AM this morning here at Clayton, it was 6.F and Nathan up in Washburn was 17.F up there, they have heavy lake effect snows with warnings up. at 10:48AM Nathan was reporting 4 inch's of new snow!, While down here we only had .50 all of this month so far, no snow today though.

We will have some light snow today, with less then 1 inch of accumulation. The bigger story is temperatures!! We have the Coldest air of the season pouring into the state late this week with highs only getting in the upper single digits!!! and lows will be single digits below zero! More on this later! Local town of the day.




Local town of the day is the City of Amery,WI ( Red arrow in photo above) Amery has a Population of 2,845, Amery is a city of lakes. Located in Polk County, ( Next community southwest of Clayton), its downtown lies on an isthmus between the Apple River and Pike, North Twin and South Twin lakes. Some snow is in the forecast for all of Southern, Western Wisconsin area any where from 1-3 inch's could fall in Polk,Saint Croix and Washburn counties places like Siren, Amery,Clayton and New Richmond will see the 1-3 inch's chance as you can see in the map above, this map is from http://www.spc.noaa.gov/ . Trace to half an inch will fall in places like Rice Lake, Menomonie and Spooner. I will have a report of how much snow we got tomorrow morning.

Well Above normal temps


This week in Northwest Wisconsin, we had Well above normal temperatures! the highest we got in Clayton this week was 41.F on Sunday, this is 20 degrees over from Avg temp of 19.F for this time of year!, here is a list of highest temperatures this week across the area,

Sunday Forecast.



Sundays high temperatures look more like weather for early spring!, not mid winter! the forecast calls for Drizzle/Freezing Drizzle for the whole area, 41.F is forecasted for Menomonie with 40 at Clayton, and Amery, Little cooler up north, 39.F at Spooner and 38 at Siren.




In the north, Freezing drizzle is also forecasted for the whole area, coolest areas are Washburn,37.F Superior 37.F and Port Wing, 37.F warmer to the south 39 for Winter,WI there will be fog/ low clouds, really a wet but very mild day ahead for all of Northwest Wisconsin. Warmer Air moveing in

Warmer are will be moving in, Starting tomorrow ( Picture it from http://www.crh.noaa.gov/wxstory.php?site=mpx ) Some areas today turn out pretty nice with Temperatures into the mid 20s to name a few, Weather bug reported, in the North, 26.7 report just NW of Washburn,WI, made it up to 25.F in Solon Springs. and 28.F in Hayward. Here in the south, temperatures also made it into the mid 20s, 24.6F at Clayton ( my house) hit 27.F in Menomonie,WI 24 also in Rice Lake, But with the winds we had it felt much colder. Skies stayed clear here in the south, but in the north it was cloudy, again today! here is a photo I took Today.

Todays forecast

Today will be warm then yesterday, it will be 25.F in New Richmond and Clayton ( where I am) 26.F in Siren 24.F in Menomonie( coldest spot in the south today ) skies will be mostly cloudy with strong south winds blowing around the falling snow make for blowing and drifting snow today.

in the north, Ashland and Superior are the warmest, 27.F for them coolest spot Butternut 23.F for there high 24.F in Hayward they will also have blowing and drifting snow.
