Saturday Highs!

Saturdays warm sunshine!

many people were surprised at today's Warm temps and sunshine, We had a warm Saturday across the area and its all thanks to the Sunshine that stayed out all day and a Warm air mass behind a warm front, today's highs were Much warmer then I predicted! Not only was the entire 6 county area above freezing, but places I thought would just reach 32.F made it above 40.F, actually many places made it above 40, Including here at Clayton, some numbers I found were nearing 50! This was the first time in the entire month of January that was seen above freezing temperatures, it has been 32 days since we seen above freezing temperatures here at Clayton, a much needed warm day. A cold front will push though the area late tonight into tomorrow which will put an end to these mild temperatures Expect highs in the 20s with maybe some very low 30s tomorrow. and even cooler for Monday. Here is a list of High temps today, some places may not have yet reached there high temp, I may have to updated this list.

Weekend Forecast, Warmer then colder.

Forecast for Saturday, Saturday Night, Sunday and Sunday Night, fronts may be edited to show effects on the area, Please note that I added two fronts to the map to show for two different days and the effects that both fronts will have on us.

Forecast Updated

This weekend a Warm front and Cold front system will effect the area, Highs could get into the 30s before the cold front moves though. Saturday: The warm front will come close to the area, bringing warm southwesterly winds. Skies will mainly be mostly cloudy, But I think there will also be some sunshine. High Temperatures will be in the upper 20s to low 30s, Some places may reach 32.F especially areas in the Southwest, that will be close to the warm front, also areas that tend to be warmer has the chance. If we can get some sun, we would definitely reach 32.F in some areas, otherwise upper 20s to 30.F are likely.
Saturday Night: it will remain cloudy, lows will be in the mid to upper teens it will stay dry.
Sunday, the cold front comes though, it will start out warm, but then cool, with gust northwest winds, Highs Sunday will be in the mid to upper 20s, Maybe a 30.F temp in the south before the fronts slides though.
Sunday Night there will still be a chance of light snow, not much for accumulations. lows will probably be cooling though the night but should end up in the low to mid single digits.

Ahead. Monday and Tuesday it looks like an Arctic Air mass behind the cold front Sunday will be effecting the area, Highs will be in the very low teens South to upper single digits and lows will be below zero North both Monday and Tuesday. Monday has a chance of light snow, nothing much for accumulation. And Tuesday a High pressure will be overhead so expect Arctic Sunshine. Wednesday it looks it will stay dry, Highs will be getting warmer into the 20s, lows above zero. and Thursday we may be getting near 30.F again.

slight chance of snow tonight. cooler for Friday, but then warming!

Forecast for Thursday, Thursday Night, Friday and Friday Night.

Wednesday we had high temperatures in the teens for the first time in 4 days! we even had some nice sunshine earlier! Tonight: there will be a weak system passing though, mainly light snow, accumulations will range from a half inch to 1 inch if were lucky. lows tonight will not fall off below zero don't that sound nice! lows temps will be in the very low teens with some places reaching the upper single digits.

Thursday: there may be a few flurries or light snow showers but nothing that will add up to much. This snow will come with a cool front, that wont lower temps down too much, Highs Thursday will be in the upper teens mainly, with some 20s possible. Temps will probably cool off later in the day, back into the teens. Thursday Night: snow should end. Northwest winds will blow some cooler temps back in. lows will fall off near zero or below zero. but nothing cooler then -10.

Friday: Skies will range Partly sunny to Partly cloudy. Highs will be in the mid to upper teens everywhere. winds will turn south later in the day due to an approaching Warm Front. Friday should remain dry. Friday Night: the approaching warm front will bring a Slight chance of preparation I say this because there is a chance that it will be warm enough for freezing drizzle, or it could stay light snow. earthier way it will remain light, nothing heavy. Lows Friday Night will be in the upper single digits, but will be steady or slowly rising!

Saturday is looking Nice! temp wise anyway, under partly sunny skies we have a good chance of reaching the upper 20s for highs, we might even reach 30.F Saturday! Looking ahead: There may be a cool off Monday with teens or 20s for highs, but then we warm back up Tuesday and Wednesday it looks like highs will be in the middle 20s and we even have chances at lower 30s after Tuesday, more on this though the upcoming week!

Monday it will start to warm up!

Weather map for Monday, Monday Night, Tuesday and Tues Night.

Temperatures will start to warm up Monday. a few areas of High pressure shown on my map as the blue H, should keep our skies sunny though at least Tuesday, and we will also stay dry. Monday should be sunny northwest winds still holding on, highs will warm to the upper single digits. Monday Night will still be quite cold, it should be clear, with lows falling back into the teens below zero. for the last time in awhile it looks like!

Tuesday will warm up even more then Monday, we should warm into the lower to middle teens Tuesday under sunny to partly cloudy skies, unless Arctic air is still holding on, if that's true Temperatures may turn out to be slightly cooler. A sign that it will warm up on Tuesday is the winds should turn South, blowing some warmer temps in. Tuesday Night will be much warmer, under partly cloudy skies lows will just above zero to just below zero all areas with clouds moving in later in the night.

its looks like even warmer temperatures for Wednesday, with highs in the low 20s, don't that even sound nice right now! I do see some chances for light snowfall on Wednesday Night, but nothing heavy. looking even farther ahead just a sneak peak, Thursday still looks warm in the 20s with a chance of snow with a cold front that will come though sometime, Friday looks only slightly cooler, teens for highs, then Saturday looks like we will really warm up, middle 20s possible! please check back here for updates!

Turning colder Friday! get ready

weather map for Friday, Friday Night and Saturday.

Currently the freezing fog (pictures below) has ended and we have sun coming though. even though it was cold this morning, it will warm up quickly, Highs today will warm into to upper 20s. I still think some low 30s are possible. Friday a cold front will move though from the northwest, this will clear out the freezing fog, and the mild temps but it will also bring in much cooler weather, we will be under a northwest flow again. The good news is this cold airmass will not be as cold as the last one. Because there will be a cold front going though, There may be a slight chance for light snow all areas, but it will mainly just stay cloudy, it will also become windy. Wind chills may be a problem. Highs on friday will be warmest early, then kinda falling off, highs in the teens. Friday Night it will be cold and windy, wind chills will make it feel worse. lows will be in the teens below zero. Saturday, there will be an arctic high overhead so we will have, Arctic Sunshine the winds will die down by this time. Highs will be in the mid single digits. Saturday night will be clear to partly cloudy, with lows in the mid teens below zero, some areas will approch -20.

looking ahead Sunday looks to be the coldest day, but it will be nearly the same as Saturday, highs in the mid single digits, lows Sunday might be a bit warmer then Saturday, but will be in the teens below zero again. Monday the cold air will begin to warm up, and we may warm up back into the very low teens!

ok here is a photo of our front yard, you can see the sun in the trees, everying seemed to be very bright this morning. You can see the shade in the yard from the frost, acted almost like leaves!
photo of the frost on a lilac bush in our backyard.

another weak system Mon, light accumulations, then clearing up.

Weather map for Monday, Tuesday and a sneak peak for Wednesday.

Two Weak systems one after another the past 2 days robbed most our Sunshine Sunday, it did turn sunny for a time in the afternoon, Then more snow moved in. The jet stream will begin to move east and bring Mild temperatures to the area as we will be on the west side (warm side) of it the warmest days look to be Tuesday and Wednesday.

Looks like there will be a 3rd weak system that will move down from the north Monday, bringing light to possible moderate snow with it, it's hard to say how much snow we will get, but my best guess would have to be half inch to an inch. if it's not snowing expect skies to be cloudy or partly sunny, I think highs Monday will reach the mid 20s. Monday Night, there may be some lingering snow showers. lows falling back into the teens but may fall as cold as the upper single digits. Tuesday. A high pressure system will start to move east and the, skies may start of cloudy but should begin to break up, Highs will be Mild and in the mid 20s once again, but upper 20s are possible!

Sneak peak into Wednesday looks like skies should be sunny and nice, Mild weather continues, Highs could reach the upper 20s and low 30s! After Wednesday the warm temps last another day, but we will have some snow chances and cooling temperatures after Thursday.

Warmer air moving in!

Weather map for Tonight, Saturday and Sunday

Warmer air will begin to move in from the west today with a warm front, as a system moves south from the north. Tonight the warm front and system will begin to push in, bring the chance for Snow and even freezing drizzle. The heaviest snows look like it will be in Eastern Washburn and Barron counties, I think accumulation there will be an 1" to 1.50 Maybe 2 inches if it's strong enough. Farther West I think mainly half inch to a inch. there might be some moderate snow in Washburn and Barron counties. Also with the Warm air Aloft, above the clouds there will some freezing drizzle, not much ice accumulations, temps will be steady or slowly rising tonight, as much needed warmer air flows into the area.

Saturday snow and freezing Drizzle will end, leaving mostly to cloudy to partly sunny skies. there may be a bit of a bite in the wind, Highs will be in the low to mid teens Saturday. Saturday night I think it will be Cloudy but then some clearing should take place, lows will in the low to mid single digits. Sunday We will really begin to feel the warmth! Skies may be partly sunny in some areas, but I think partly cloudy skies will be the main sky condition. Highs will be reaching the low to mid 20s, get ready for that!

There will be a chance of a January Thaw there will be a chance of highs in the low 30s Monday though Wednesday with even the chance for Sunshine, more on this later!
Arctic Air Report below

Arctic Air Report

Frozen White Pine trees and Crystal blue skies!

Northwest Wisconsin has been under an Arctic Blast Since Tuesday, Highs were not even above zero on Wednesday or Thursday and Wind chills got to as low as -40 below zero, this caused a lot of problems across the area, schools closed, and cars were shut down, thankfully the winds were not too strong, keeping wind chills somewhat down, The coldest night was Thursday Morning, and areas that got the coldest seemed to be in Western Burnett County, here are reports of the coldest temps

The Central pars of the area will approach -25s communities like Amery, Osceola and Rice Lake may approach the upper -29s and for the North temps will be in the upper -29s some places along Douglas county may approach -30.F! Winds will become a bit breezy later Wednesday and continue to be breezy until Friday this will cause for wind chills to reach as low as -50.F This is dangerously cold weather. the extreme wind chills will be possible Tonight though the day Thursday and into Friday. make sure not to stay outside long and dress warmly. Thursdays High will not even reach above zero under Arctic Sunshine, highs will be in the -5s all areas, but some places might not even warm out of the -10s. Snow, then Coldest air of the season so far moves in.

weather map for Monday, Monday Night and Tuesday

A strong clipper system will quickly move though the area before Very cold air comes down behind it from Canada. This Clipper judging by the models at 2:50PM Sunday looks to drop 1 to 3 inches over the area, but as much as 4 inches are possible. Snow may be moderate at times before ending. Behind the clipper strong Northwest winds will develop this will cause blowing and drifting snow and dropping temperatures. Windchills may be as cold as the -30s to -40s below zero Monday Night. and actual air temps will drop into the -10s south to -20s below zero in the north overnight. Tuesday an Arctic High will be over the area, so expect to see sunshine, but temps will Not warm much at all!, Highs will stay below zero all day, the warmest spots will possible get up to 0.F but that is not likely.

Everyone should be ready for this Arctic cold blast that is about to move over the area, Snow,Blowing Snow, Very Cold wind Chills and Cold temperatures will all be a part of the weather over the next few days. high temperatures may not get above zero during some days, everyone needs to make sure to Keep the heat turned up and wood stoves stalked!

Looking ahead into the week another clipper may move in Tuesday Night into Wednesday, but temps will not be warming up much. looks like it may warm at a slight bit Wednesday before another arctic air mass moves in Thursday, looks like we wont really warm up again until Saturday, more on the weather though the week, in later posts.

Clayton turns 100 this year!!

Barn built in 1909 located 1 mile south of Clayton.

I told my viewers I would be posting a special post this weekend, here it is!

The Village of Clayton will be 100 years old this year, since it was Incorporated as a community in October of the year 1909! Clayton which started out as a Sawmill on Lake Camila before the year 1880. the community was finally Incorporated as a village in 1909, before the Railroad track was built in 1874 and Clayton became a stop for the train. Many of buildings in Historic downtown have now been there for over 100 years! some of the business like the Citizens Bank have served Clayton for just as long. Plans have already started to celebrate 100 years of the Clayton Community on Clayton Cheese days, which for this special occasion will actually last 4 days instead of the normal 3 days. There may be a Fair with rides which is something that's has not happened in Clayton for a long time. There have also been talk that they Maybe putting in a Community Library, and in a section of the building they would set up a place where people can see photos and Items of Clayton's history. I will be making a blog post closer to Clayton Cheese days in June which will provide more information. see the Village Website, for information on events
The O-Kay-0 Dairy Farm 1 Mile south of Clayton and can be easily seen from town, is owned by My Aunt and Uncle, the Olson family. The farm will turn 100 this year along with Clayton. The Barn has the year it was built written in rocks on the side of the building, which I thought was really neat the way the colors were put in. This barn has had many moderation's between the years, but it is still in full use today. The barn holds about 60 milking dairy cows Which produces milk for Cheese. There is also many calves that raised for milking later. The Farm also changed over the years one of the changes is a new Silo which has been built and is likely one of the tallest Silos in the area, Ruth and Odell say that operation in this 100 year old barn will continue!

Forecast for Sunday Below

Clippers, then Very Cold next week!

Weather Map for Tonight, Sunday and Sunday Night.

Tonight we will have the biggest moon of 2009! so get out there just after sunset to see it! I am hoping it stays clear just long enough, I think it will especially in the east Skies. late tonight there may be some light snow moving in the areas Northwest. but I think it may hold off until later. what will cause the snow is a weak clipper system moving southeast. Snow accumulations will range from a Trace to maybe up to 1 Inch. Sunday will have the best chance of snow, mostly light snow. Highs on Sunday will be in the teens to low 20s, it will be the Last "warm" day for awhile. before Cold Arctic air moves in. Sunday Night snow chances continue, with only light accumulations lows will fall into the Single digits.

Monday is the first day where Arctic Air will begin to move in. most likely what looks like right after a Stronger clipper moves though, Maybe 1 or 2 inches?. after this Clipper we will begin to get into a Cold Arctic Outbreak, Temperatures will be at there coldest levels this season so far. highs will only be around 0.F starting Tuesday, and lasting though the week, Lows may fall Below -20 below zero.

People in the area Need to prepare for a long Arctic outbreak, do anything last minute preparing on Sunday and early Monday, then Stay Warm, and keep heat on, stalk wood stoves. This cold be a Dangerous Cold Outbreak! I will do a Forecast on the arctic air Tomorrow or Monday. Dirk of Rice Lake has been forecasting this Arctic Outbreak for the past 2 weeks, please visit Dirks Forecasting Center to see all of his details!

Rabbits are becoming a problem!

Arborvitae (Cedar) bush next to our house.

This is a post warning for anyone who has wild rabbits in your area, Hungry Rabbits are becoming a problem across Clayton and other communities in the area, and small trees and shrubs are at risk of being killed. if you have newly planted trees or shrubs in your yard, and you know you have wild rabbits around I highly recommend that you cover your new plantings with fencing with holes small enough to where they cannot get though. I was looking out the window this morning and I saw two rabbits eating the bark off of a Plum tree I had planted last spring, unfortunately they have stripped the entire small trunk bare, which means the tree will likely not live. When I was walking around our yard, I noticed that they have been to every bush and tree in our yard. so I immediately fenced off the most important trees most trees only had little branches eaten off. you can tell if you have rabbits by the tracks they make in the snow, they also leave many little "gifts" in the lawn, so if you have seen Rabbits in your area, be very watchful of your new trees and shrubs!

Hemlock fenced during Winter to keep rabbits and our dog away.

Also while your watching for rabbits don't forget to keep snow from totally covering your bushes. when young bushes are totally cover by snow it can become heavy and flatten your bush out. ALSO Remember to leave some snow cover the ground next to the plant, snow is an insulator which protects the roots from extreme cold temps. just brush off enough to keep the snow from breaking the branches, When removing snow off Bushes remember to do it carefully, Evergreen bushes become brittle in temps under 28.F and the branches and break very easily. Also watch our for snowplows, that may have pushed snow over plants makes sure to uncover. hope this post was helpful!, in other subject the weather was actually nice today, we had sunshine and temps nearing 30!

Warmer For Tuesday

Weather map for Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday

weather will get a bit warmer for Tuesday, as a system passes to the north and drags a warm font though the area, highs will warm into the upper 20s! there will be a chance of light snow or flurries. Tuesday night it will likely remain cloudy with lows still warmish, lows will be in the teens. Wednesday there will be a better chance of light snow, but accumulations should be light. highs Wednesday will be in the teens and 20s. Wednesday night a High pressure moves in behind the system, and with that we should have clearing skies later, and temps will like drop below zero or stay just above zero if clouds hold. Thursday we should have Sunshine, but it will be a bit cool with highs staying in the teens there might be some high clouds moving in by the end of the day due to an approaching system.

Thursday Night a system will be close enough by to bring the chance of snow. after this system it will be very cold for the weekend more of this later.

One Of The Snowiest Decembers Remembered

Snow Which has continued to pile up along our stair way since the starting of the month.

here in Clayton we had one of the top 10 Snowiest Decembers. the Beginning of the month was fairy quiet, then a parade of storms began on the 5th and lasted though the month. Many storms brought 2-4 inches at a time. We had at least one if not two Snow storms hit a week, sometimes with in days of each other! I will talk about a few of these storms, the 9th a large storm system brought Moderate rain, which is actually rare for December. We had a total of 0.68 of Rain, This melted much of snow that was on the ground, then later that day Colder air moved in and we got 3.0 inches of snow, on top of Ice. Between 9th and and the 31st we got 2 winter storms and one system with freezing drizzle. which brought small ice accumulations, Before a Huge Snow storm hit after the 26th and brought 7 almost 8 inches of Snow to Clayton. the monthly total for December was 25.95 Inches of snow! the Average for Dec is 11.20" Inches we had over 14 inches above normal snowfall for Dec. Not all of this snow was on the ground by the end of the month because Almost all the snow melted in the middle of the month by Moderate rain and warm temps.

The stormy weather continue into early January and we are currently at 32.20 inches of snow for the season. Last Winter we had 61 inches of Snow in total. We are not even half way though the winter and already we have over half of last years total snowfall! It will be a surprise to see how much we end out with this year, but if the storminess continues could go over 70 inches by spring! and all the melt water will really help area lakes and rivers from a dry summer.

Special Post
I will be making blog a post This Upcoming Weekend, about A Special Event that will be happening in Clayton this year!. Please be sure to check in This Weekend to find out!

Snowstorm turns out to be more like snow showers.

the Snowstorm that was forecasted to hit with major amounts of snow, was MUCH Weaker then I forecasted. When I first looked at the models I saw heavy snow and major snow accumulations. There was some snow though, the highest snow totals fell in Burnett county where just 3 inches fell at Hertel and Grantsburg father south barely even seen any snow!. Ridgeland only got 1 Inch! here in Clayton we were expecting 4 to 7 inches but the total was a small 2 inches. What happened is, during the system most of the preip fell as freezing rain or sleet. then fine snow flakes. this help keep totals down. but the other thing is the system was weaker then the forecast models were saying. and most of the snow went north of the area. places like Douglas County seen the highest totals from this storm. but even there it seems like it was far less then forecasted. Check out Nathans weather blog to see totals up in that area. Looks like OWNS3 Picked up some Freezing rain in Oshkosh,WI check out his blog and his snow totals for December !

looks like the weather be begin to quit down. but it does look cold with some sunshine. I will have the forecast out later today.

Another winter storm will impact the area

Weather map for Friday Saturday and Saturday Night

Another winter storm will have it's eyes set for Northwest Wisconsin. only this one may bring some sleet or freezing rain to some places. A warm from will drag some warmer air in, and places like Menomonie, Baldwin and Hammond will see the chance for sleet or freezing drizzle/rain. the sleet may fall as far north as Amery to Dallas. should stay all snow north of Highway 8 so Siren, Rice Lake and Spooner will see the heaviest snow and the most snow accumulation. Saturday may start off sunny then clouds move in. the best chance for snow and sleet. will be in the afternoon. there may also be some freezing drizzle south. Snow may become Moderate to Heavy later. Highs on Saturday will be in the upper 20s to 30 south. to the mid 20s north. Saturday Night it should be all snow for all areas. snow may be heavy, especially in the north. lows will dip into the teens. Blowing snow will also be a problem as colder air moves in, winds may gust to as high as 20 MPH in this storm. Snow accumulations will range from 5" to 8" inches in the north to 3" 5" in the south see map for details.

People in the area should prepare for a major Winter Storm with high snow accumulations, blowing snow, and very cold temps and wind chills
