Oct 29-30th Strong weather system & wind.

Rainy conditions Oct 29th.

A strong weather system effected our weather for the end of this week. Thursday this system brought moderate to heavy rain and mild temps brought up by strong southerly winds made the rain feel like a warm rain, Highs on Thursday were in the low 50s but actually temperatures overnight Thursday night actually raised instead of fell!

by Friday morning temps were in the mid 50s to 60, This was when highs topped out, Friday morning a rain band along a front moving north on the a spinning low pressure system brought strong South winds which lasted through the day, winds gusted over 40MPH at times. in many locations, this caused some minor tree damage, Most tree damage came from dead or weak trees, We had a small green weeping willow branch down, and a large 3 inch dead branch came down from a tree in my aunts lawn. our lights also flickered several times through the day from winds. As the low moved north is dragged in a cold front which past through in Friday afternoon, This was caused big temp drop Friday my Temperature went from 57.F Friday morning to 35.F at 9PM at night by this time it was windy raw and wet. This system also brought more rainfall to the area, many places pick up near if not over 1 inch of rain, My gauge reported 1.23" for the total system event.

It looks like now we will dry out a bit for Halloween but there still could be a stray shower and temps will be much cooler then Friday, highs only expected in the low to mid 40s.

Halloween Weekend Forecast. Halloween Night looking dry + Asthma update.

Weathermap for Friday Saturday and Sunday.

after another wet rainy Thursday from a large weather system, were looking at some more rain Friday, We will stay on the east side of the system whichs means it will for sure stay rain and, it will be more scattard in nature, we will also have breezy condtions with winds possibly gusting near 30MPH, Halloween Day looks mostly Dry, expect for a slight chance of rain or possibly snow as cold air wraps in behind this large low pressure Saturday will be much cooler too with highs in the mid 40s Halloween Evening looks Dry, but it will remain cloudy. and it will be on the cool side. Sunday has the best chance of being dry, but there will still be a slight chance of a shower Highs will remain in the mid 40s. Also don't forget to change your clocks back an hour on Sunday! Detailed forecast below.

Friday, Scatterd Showers, mild with highs in the low to middle 50s, Breezy southwest winds could gust near 30MPH Friday Night a chance of isolated rain showers, possibly mixing with a few lakes late lows in the upper 30s.

Halloween Day, Much cooler, a slight chance of an isolated shower of rain mixing with snow early otherwise cloudy with highs in the mid 40s. Halloween Night, Cloudy should stay dry for the evening hours and overnight. lows falling to the mid 30s.

Sunday A slight chance of an isolated shower otherwise cloudy with highs in the mid 40s Sunday night still a slight chance of a shower otherwise cloudy with lows in the upper 30s.

Looking Ahead early next week appears to be cool, and mainly dry expect for a small chance of showers on monday, Tuesday looks dry but remaining cool Wednesday we might have a shot of rain or snow, it's too early to tell which form that will fall, then I see more small chances for rain late week with temps warming up a bit towards Friday. Remember this changes everyday but this is what I see happening on the forcasting models now.

our halloween display Oct 29th.

I want to wish everyone a good Halloween! This year seems to be on the coolish side but we all know it could be much worse.

Forecasts may be late sometimes/Asthma Update and now High blood pressure.

Well this is my blog and I write in it so I thought I would talk a little about this life changing event. Since I was diagnosed with Mild persistent Asthma October 22nd for which I now have to use 2 inhalers for, During this visit, the doctors noticed I had higher then normal blood pressure, and after a blood test which came in mainly normal expect some details, and 2ND follow up visit the doctor diagnosed me with high blood pressure, for which I now have to take medications, loose some weight, exercised more, and eat healthier. Anyway one test showed my thyroid was under active, this can sometimes happen naturally, but because of this reading, I have more doctors visits to attend to so sometimes my forecasts may be a bit late, bare with me.

A much needed break in the rainfall. Tuesday looking pleasant.

Weathermap for Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday.

It's nice to have all this rain which has Very muched helped out drought, but people would like to finish up yard activies and we need a couple dry days for that good news is, we should get a couple, Tuesday looks pleasant, Temperatures look nice too highs in the 50s.

A High pressure system will pass to our southeast on Tuesday, this should bring us sunny to partly sunny skies with mid temperatures, Wednesday we will have more cloud cover to deal with fro ma nearby system, but temperatures will remain mild, Thursday we will also be stuck under cloud cover, with a chance at showers late from out next system. Temps will continue to be mild. Detailed forecast below.

Tuesday sunny to partly cloudy and pleasant! highs in the mid 50s. Tuesday Night, Partly Cloudy lows in the mid 30s.

Wednesday partly sunny to cloudy, highs in the mid 50s. Wednesday night, Cloudy lows in the low 40s.

Thursday Cloudy with a small chance of showers late in the day, Highs in the mid to upper 50s. Thursday Night, a chance of showers, lows in the 40s

Looking ahead

Update on late week strong system. Last week you may have seen me mention the chance for a strong system with snow, Since then a lot has changed in the models, The models have pushed the system from Wednesday all the way to Friday and Saturday, The other big difference is it now looks at this time, like the low will track west of the area, this means we will be on the south side of the low which is the warm side, This means that most of this next system will come in the form of rain. With turn over to snow Saturday, Another thing I want to mention is this system may draw up enough warm air to rise out temperatures up in the 60s, with this and moisture Thunderstorms may be possible. I will continue to monitor this storm as the week passes by.

Weather Equipment, What to I use do gather information?

Temperature unit, in our Backyard.

Some people may be wondering what I use to gather weather information, This is a post explaining what I use and how I use report weather information.

Above is my Temperature unit, This gauge reads Temperature and Humidity along with Dewpoint, This gauge sits right in my backyard, so as you can see live weather information from me actually does come from right here in my yard! Wind Gauge # 1 Main Wind Gauge

This is my Main wind gauge, This gauge only reads how fast the wind is going, It is located at the top of our house, The highest I could get it to go.

Wind Gauge # 2 Secondary Wind Gauge.

This is my second wind gauge, This one also reads how fast the wind is going, But it also tells me wind direction and Wind Chill, This wind gauge is located on the West side of our yard, This one is in a test spot, to see if it can read different wind speeds then my main one. Main Unit Inside our house.

This is the Main Unit, This is where the Main Wind Gauge, Secondary Wind Gauge, and Temperature Unit report information. as you can see on the left corner the temperature was 37.6F when I took this picture, rounded off the temp is 38.F The humidity was 86% and the number on the top right is the Heat Index, Although I'm not sure why I had that up it was 38.F at the time. this unit has a High and Low recording capability for up to 10 days, Which means all I have to do is click on the Min or Max button and it tells me how high or low we got!

Rain Gauge.

This is what I use to measure Rainfall amounts it goes up to 5 inches, This gauge measures in tenths it is located near my Garden which is a spot clear of trees, If your wondering, If I have ever recorded over 5 inches in one storm, The answer is Not yet! but I have gotten up to 3 inches in a storm system.

Yardstick I use to measure Snow.

I use a general yardstick to measure snowfall totals, I normally just stick it into snow that piles up on my snowboard and measure snow this way, It has proved to be pretty useful. After I measure Snow, I normally report to the National Weather Service right after.

Record Keeping

My Priep Book

After getting the information using the rain gauge or yardstick, and after I've reported to the National Weather Service, I record the information here, I have been recording for about 2 years now, I usually write a little information about the system or storm, like impacts systems or storms may have had or, if it was a strong low of cold front which caused it, Then I write Rainfall to Snowfall totals, I underline them, Then I add it to the monthly totals, Then I add it to the seasons total, and that's how I come up with monthly and Season total Snowfall and Rainfall.

Temperature Calender.

This is my temperature Calender, I record High temperature only, I'm not sure why I decided only go with this, but this is all I ever recorded since I started recorded 2 years ago, Along with Temperature, I also recorded daily wind directions, and if wind gusts over 20MPH it gets added here, I write temperature and wind information down every single day, this makes it easy to pinpoint our warmest and coolest daytime high temps!

Thanks for reading this post on how I recorded my weather information, I hope you like taking a look in how recorded weather information!

October 23 Rain, Then Wet Slushy Snow caused problems in some areas.

Moderate snow that fell Friday afternoon.

what a mix up of a day it was today! at first people woke up to moderate rain showers, like when I woke up it was raining pretty heavy then near 11AM it turned to sleet then big snowflakes started falling down, then it remained snow and actually became quite heavy in the afternoon, the snow flakes were large, and came down heavy enough to accumulate on roads, This caused some traffic issues in areas, Traffic was definitely slowed. Towards evening some places even had a change back to light rain! Watching this system on radar was interesting, The radar showed snow falling in the middle of the preip, with rain all along the edges of the area of preip.

White oak branches bending under wet snow Oct 23rd

rainfall totals of 0.10 to 0.20 that fell earlier made it perfect for the snow to stick to trees, this made them quite heavy, It wasn't enough to cause any major tree damage at my location, but trees did bend low enough that it was quite noticeable.

Areas that got more snow such as northern Barron county and southern Washburn County, and Southern Dunn County have some minor tree damage, Some trees snapped under the weight of the snow, Also Power was cut off to parts of the City of Menomonie likely due to falling tree limbs. Slippery roads also caused many car accidents and slide offs across the area.

Front Yard Snow Oct 23rd.

Snowfall Reports
There were not many reports made but most places reported around 1, to 2 inches, But A friend of mine Dirk, an area blogger of a blog called Dirks Forecasting Center reported nearly 4 inches of snow in his area Northwest of Rice Lake, The area the got the heaviest snowfall totals seems to be confined to Northern Barron and Southern Washburn counties, places like Shell Lake, Sarona, Cumberland and Haugen, This area had colder air and heavier snow, South and West of this area, had less snow accumulations Baldwin Reported 1 inch and Menomonie reported 2 inches, At my backyard here in Clayton, I picked up 1.0 inch of snow. places in the far west, had even less that, maybe near an inch or less, This area had the warmest temps as warmer air got wrapped back in, which caused snow to turn back over to rain towards evening.

Comparing This October's Snow to Average October Snowfall.
so the area got another minor snow event! most places are definitely Well above the normal October snowfall average! My backyard picked up 5.50" of snow so far this October, This is 5 inches above the normal October average of 0.50 half inch! We are also well above normal on Rainfall as well So far I have gotten 7.70" of rain this is 5.31" above the normal amount of 2.39"

so we are really catching up on moisture

Cooler weather made it's come back, chances for accumulating snow Friday

Weathermap for Friday Saturday and Sunday.

Cooler weather has made a come back! and now we have the chance for accumulating snowfall Friday, as much as 2 inches may accumulate in places in the north. I must say this is a hard forecast, I had much trouble in deciding what to go with but here it goes! The northwestern edge of a low pressure system will send preip north, Temps may be just warm enough for some rain in the South and Central areas in the morning, but it may just start off as all snow, possible Moderate at times in Burnett and Washburn counties, but as the morning goes on cooler air will be drawn in and it will change over to all Snow for the rest 6 county area. this will make for some accumulations.

Accumulations: Here is what I'm going with, In the South and Central areas, I believe accumulations will be 1 inch or less where it will start off as rain, this would include places south of a line from Luck to Rice Lake, but north of this line, for places like Siren, Webster, Spooner and Minong it may just remain an all snow event and this will likely make for some higher accumulations, I'm going with 1 to 2 inches for these areas. The snow will be a wet type of snow for everyone.

Snow will come to an end Friday Night, this will make the way for a dry Saturday with some peaks of sunshine, It will also be a bit warmer then Friday, I also believe a good part of Sunday will be dry before another system makes it's way in our direction which will start to bring some preip chances, The forecast models are all over the place on this one so I'm going with rain/snow chance starting late Sunday, It's just too early to tell on Accumulations, but it looks like only light accumulations at this time. Detailed forecast below.

Friday, preip starting as rain in south and Central areas, remaining Snow for places in the north, before changed to all snow across the area in the morning to early afternoon, Highs in the mid to upper 30s, Accumulations of wet snow, 1 inch or less South and Central areas, To as much as 1-2" in the north. Snow could be on the heavier side at times. Friday Night, Snow or flurries early before ending, then cloudy skies lows in the low 30s.

Saturday, Cloudy to partly sunny, staying Dry, highs in the low to mid 40s, Saturday Night, Cloudy lows in the 30s.

Sunday, Cloudy to start of the day with chances of rain or snow in the late afternoon, highs in the upper 30s to low 40s Sunday Night a chance Rain or Snow, light accumulations possible lows in the mid 30s

Looking ahead. We are looking at a Active week ahead, The system that I talk about rain or snow chances Sunday will continue into Monday, One model says it will be light snow one says maybe enough warm air for rain, any priep that would fall should remain light, for now I am leaning on the chance for snow rather then rain.

Watching Middle of next week. The forecast models are picking up on a larger system which will start to effect us Tuesday & Wednesday, This one is one to watch because it has the chance to bring higher accumulating snows to our area, Right now the rain/snow line will be close so it's way to early to tell, But stay tuned, because if enough cool air stays around it could mean significant snow accumulations to parts of our area.

Dirk over at Dirks forecasting center has already begun mentioning this storm, it will be one to keep an eye on through the week.

Another wet rainy system! Rainfall totals. impressive temp contrast

Rainy conditions Oct 22nd.

Another rainy system once again passed through the area bring widespread rainfall totals to our area which continues to help lakes and streams, Drizzle started late Tuesday Night, Wednesday morning, temps started out mild in the mid 40s, we had Moderate to even heavy showers through the area in the morning, most places picked up over a half inch of rain, some places even got over an inch. at my location I picked up 1.33" then by late Wednesday cooler air started filtering into the area, and by evening temps has fallen to the 30s through the area. This is really making for one wet October!

A low pressure system riding along a Strong stationary front South of our 6 county area is what brought our widespread rainfall, the temperature contrast between this front was very impressive, north of this front in our area were in the 40s for highs before falling into the upper 30s late in the day, some places in Northern Wisconsin highs were cool enough for snowfall, But south of the front in the southern Wisconsin in places like Madison and Milwaukee, highs were in the 70s today! That is hard to believe because my high was 45.F!

I have more weather to talk about, our next system comes at us Friday, This system will bring more rain and snow possible accumulating snows, I will have updates tomorrow in the afternoon.

Becoming Wet once again late Tuesday & Wednesday heavy rains possible.

Weathermap for Tuesday Wednesday & Thursday.

We will fall back into a wet pattern starting late Tuesday, I believe most of Tuesday will be dry with mild temperatures for us, but starting late in the day, We will start to see some rain chances, especially overnight Tuesday and Wednesday, Wednesday looks very wet with Heavy rains possible, and up to an 1" or more of rain looks possible cooler air will also fill in Wednesday and it will be cooler then Tuesday. Thursday still looks like a good chance of getting some rainfall.

The main weather maker for the next 3 days will be a fairly strong low pressure system and warm front to the south, temps will be mild so it will fall as rain, but as cooling air fills in Wednesday night, there might be some wet snowflakes, Rain will form along this front to the south and push north, which will make for wet conditions here especially during the day Wednesday, Heavy rain looks possible, some places could get over an inch of rain, Detailed forecast below.

Tuesday, Partly sunny to Cloudy with rain chances starting late Tuesday, Highs in the low 50s. Tuesday Night, A chance of rain, becoming a good chance late Tuesday Night, lows in the low 40s

Wednesday, Cooler and Wet, A good chance of rain, heavy rain is possible, highs in the mid 40s. Wednesday Night, a good chance of rain, rain chances lasting through the night, lows in the upper 30s.

Thursday, a chance of rain in the morning, otherwise cloudy, highs in the mid 40s. Thursday Night, a chance of rain, lows in the upper 30s.

Looking ahead, I see very wet times continuing, it also looks like after temps cool down Thursday it will stay cool, the weekend looks cool, there might even be some rain or snow chances Saturday, looking even father ahead, next week continues to look cool with chances of rain or snow, I really dislike using the long term models this time of year because they can always change so quick, but this is what they are showing at this time.

Fall Color Report, Very dull colors this year.

fairly Dull colors Oct 19th,

Colors really seem Dull this year, yellow is the main rule of color, I believe the dull colors are from a wet cool fall. Cold temps last week has caused some trees to drop leaves with out changing a color, or the leaves dried up on the tree. All trees are showing signs of color now, which is why I decided to go with Peak color even though colors are not very bright.

Fall color report,

Reports show that Grantsburg in Burnett county has already past peak as well as Luck, and Birchwood, everyone else is ether at peak or very near peak. due to the dull color and the fact that most places are at or past peak, This will likely be my last report of the season.

one last look at red color in our white oaks.

the oak tree in our yard has the prettiest color around that I've seen, this tree always turns red.

thanks for viewing my Fall color reports.

Final Offical 100 year signing and celebration.

A Restored old building in downtown Clayton.

The final 100 year celebration of Clayton took place Friday Evening, many of you remember me mentioned this event back in June, The reason why this celebration took place was because, Oct 1909 Clayton officially became a village, so it was a special Friday for the community, It was the day the official 100 year signing took place, To celebrate during the football game a cannon was fired to honor this event. This cannon was loud enough to easily hear it from inside my house nearly a mile away from where it was fired!
Also to celebrate this final event, a fireworks display lit up the skies above Clayton after the game, These were taken from my place, they had some really nice ones.

more of the fireworks display.

Nicer, Warmer weather coming our way.

weathermap for Saturday Sunday and Monday.

After a Very cold, Very snowy week, Were in for some nicer warmer weather for this weekend, Temperatures will warm to the mid to upper 50s, and besides a slight chance for snow or rain early Saturday with a weak system, it looks dry for the entire weekend into Monday. Detailed forecast below.

Saturday, A slight chance of some light rain or light snow in the morning otherwise cloudy, possible turning partly cloudy in the afternoon with highs in the mid to upper 40s. Saturday Night, Partly Cloudy, and cool, lows in the low 30s.

Sunday, Nice, Partly Cloudy, highs in the mid to upper 50s. Sunday Night Partly Cloudy Warmer lows in the upper 30s.

Monday, Nice, Partly Cloudy more clouds late in the afternoon, highs in the upper 50s. Monday Night, a chance of rain, lows in the 40s.

Looking ahead, it looks like out warmer dry steak wont last long cooler and wetter weather look to make a come back Tuesday, with highs cooling back to the 40s by Wednesday, It still looks like it will be warmer this his past week. Looking even farther ahead, Next Week It looks like we will have off and on cold periods, with plenty of chances for rain.

More Snow! and a bit busy with Doctors Appointment.

This mornings wet heavy snowfall.

Well we received another snowfall last night into this morning, It started off as rain late Wednesday night, but as cooler air moved in from the north it changed over to snow, and accumulated on grass and trees, and actually trees were starting to bend under the weight. Temps were right at 32.F when the snow fell so it was very wet snow, and didn't take long to melt.

This morning here I picked up 1.25" but it was melted by 2PM, This is turning out to be a fairly snowy October! A warm-up is forecasted to come this weekend, I'll have more on that soon.

The reason why I've been late on my forecast is, I have been having breathing problems for the past year Exspecially at night, I suspected Asthma after reading some information, I have all of the symptoms, the other day I had a episode after a walk, where I have Much trouble breathing and even talking, I decided to go to the doctors for this yesterday, after 3 hours, the Doctor diagnosed and believes I have Asthma, they gave me some tests and Xrays but they are UN sure of what type it will be classified as, Severe Moderate or Mild. but I was prescribed 2 inhalers for, one for everyday use and one for when I have much troubles breathing, So this is why I've been behind, Thankyou for reading.

Day After the Snow Pictures!

Snow on a Balsam Fir with beautiful Blue October Skies!

After yesterdays snow, temperatures made it into the upper 30s yesterday, which started melting the snow, but cool overnight lows in the mid 20s allowed the snow to remain on the ground overnight and into today! a good 1 inch in spots! After Clouds starting clearing out, the strong October Sun didn't take long to start melted the snow, it didn't take long before you really could see and hear lots of dripped and snow falling off the trees. The Snow, Blue Skies and green backdrop really made for very cool looking pictures! I think with the green trees and snow, this scene looks more like in the mountains then Wisconsin in Mid October!

Highs today made it into the low 40s here, The strong sun did melt much of the snow, but even as the day ended some snow Still remained on the ground! North sides of roofs and buildings and heavily shaded spots still hold snow cover, there's still a pretty solid snow pack on the north side of our house but everywhere around it the snow has melting, It looks pretty odd, our yard everywhere else is all green besides then all white this single place.

Unusually Early, Mid October Wintry system, Minor snow accumulations across the area, One to Remember!

Snowy Green Apple Tree in our Yard Oct 11th.

A Fairly Unusual Wintry System impacted the area Monday Bringing minor snow accumulations across the entire area. Now it's not completely Unheard of to see this much snow in Mid October but, it is definitely very unusual, According to the NWS it has been 60 years since the region has seen 2 measurable snowfalls this early in October, What caused the snow is a cold, long lasting air mass has been stuck over the area since Thursday But Saturday is when Very cold air was drawn in from Canada and this put highs only in the upper 30s and lows in the 20s, this allowed all the preip from a passing low pressure system to be all snow, This is what made the way for our 1st Wintry System of the season!

Reports

Snowfall Reports, ( may now be final report this may need to be updated)

Most places saw between 1-3 Inches of snow from this system, Which is actually fairly significant snowfall for Oct standards, The Average Snow for the entire month of October is just a half Inch! The Highest snowfall total came from Dirks area at 3.20" There wasn't any reports for Washburn or Burnett Counties so I went with an estimate from nearby reports. Snow started in the Early Morning hours, Light to Moderate Snow lasted through the day, Temperatures were at or above freezing so roadways were wet and were not getting snow accumulations so travel was fairly smooth, highs only just made it into the upper 30s for the area, The Average high this time of year is near 60!

Photos and Experiences

Snow Filled Green Oak Trees, A fairly Rare Scene.

this snowy system was definitely unusually early, It's really not often you see that you see this much snow this early in October, Actually In all of my past, I could not ever remember a time when we had Snow while trees were mostly green I also asked my Dad the same question and he also said in the 20+ years of living here, he has not seen this much snow this early, This was a very interesting experience and will be a system to remember.

Another look and the snowy conditions with green foliage!

At My location, Light Snow started Very early in the morning at 4AM, with a temp of 30.F by 7AM the ground was White and covered with snow, after about 8AM heavier snow moved in and temps rose to 32.F, snow was piling up quickly, It was a wet heavy fluffy type of snow and tree branches started bending, But by the afternoon the temp rose to about 36.F and snow quickly melted off tree branches, but some snow stayed on the ground through the day! and likely through the night. as lows drop below freezing.

One last look at Snow with some Fall Color!

My Total Snow accumulation from this system was 2.75 inches, This puts us at 3.25" of snow for the entire month so far including Saturdays Snow!, last year we had a Trace for the month of Oct, What is also Interesting is, Last year we didn't even have our 1st flakes until the 26th Of October, and it wasn't even a sticking snowfall While this year our first 2 snowfalls have been measurable ones!

More Snow ahead, Early Winter Storm looking Possible for the area Sun night/ Monday Several Inches possible!

Weather Map for Sunday and Monday, No 3rd Day.

Some Changes have been made to this forecast, It now looks like the freezing line will remain south of our area which will mean, it will be an all-Snow event in our area, and the heaviest areas of accumulation will now probably be in the south, but I still believe accumulation is likely across the entire area Read Below

We are looking at an Early season Winter Storm for our 6 county area Late Sunday Night into Monday, It appear that Several inches are possible in parts of the area, The best chance at the most accumulation will be in Southern areas. A low pressure system will move in from the west late Sunday Night, It may take awhile for the snow to Begin falling but late Sunday Night is when I expect snow to start falling here, The best chance of Snow will be Monday, It now looks like it will be an All Snow event across the entire area, Several inches of snow. are possible across the entire area, Snow would probably be wet and mainly accumulate on grassy spots, but if it falls hard enough they may be slushy accumulations on roads.

My best guess: I now believe that this will be an all snow event in our entire 6 county area Snow will start late Sunday Night, into Monday Morning, Snow may be Moderate to heavy at times in the morning. I believe Snow will continue into Monday Afternoon and Evening, Accumulations, It now looks like the brunt of the snow will fall across Central and Southern areas, but I believe that by Monday Evening, snow Accumulations could, be 2-3" across the entire area, with as much as 4 Inches possible. in parts of the southern areas,

Sunday, Cool and Sunny Increasing Clouds Late highs in the low to mid 40s. Sunday Night, Turning Cloudy, Snow chances starting late.

Monday, A Good chance of snow all areas in the morning lasting through the afternoon, Snow may be Moderate to Heavy at times, especially in the morning, Snow coming to an end in the evening, Snow accumulations by evening 2-3 inches across all of the area with as much as 4 inches in some spots in the south.

Tuesday Partly Cloudy highs in the low 40s and upper 30s Tuesday Night, Partly Cloudy lows in the upper 20s.

Very Cold Overnight Lows Saturday & Sunday Report.

Saturday Morning Lows (left) / Sunday Morning Lows (right)

We had Very Cold temperatures here the past few days, but Saturday and Sunday Night were especially cold and Everyone in the area fell under a Deep Freeze, under Clear Skies, lows both Saturday and Sunday nights plunged to there coldest levels so far this season, lows fell to the Mid and lower 20s across the entire area, The coolest temp was Spooner on Sat Morning at 21.F and Grantsburg, on Sun Morning at 21.F
Our yard covered in leaves which all fell off overnight due to the deep freeze.

Low Temp at my location were also Very Cold both nights, I fell to 24.F Saturday morning highs on Saturday only topped out in the mid 30s! Then we fell to 25.F on Sunday Morning. We had a deep freeze both nights and all the rest of the plants have been froze off, Even some weaker trees dropped green leaves overnight! you can see this everywhere around my local area, When we drove through town, I seen quite a few spotty trees like ash and Maple which lost all there leaves overnight because of the cold temps, the sidewalks and yards were filled with a blanket of colorful leaves. Even Some fully green trees even dropped all their leaves, Most Hardier trees held onto their leaves, Look at this amazing comparison below of a Ash tree in my yard.

White Ash in our Backyard Thursday October 8th.

White ash in our Backyard Early Sunday October 11th.

After we had the Snow early Saturday morning, skies cleared and lows plunged to 24.F by Sunrise. This was Cold enough to make the Ash Tree in our backyard shed all of it's leaves at once! Shortly after we temperatures fell well below freezing, the tree starting dropped leaves immediately, and 2 hours later by 10AM, the tree had no leaves left at all, and the leaves covered our sidewalk and roof, This was the same case for 2 other trees in our yard. This all occurred on Saturday between 6AM-10AM, I have seen this tree drop leaves when there was a few leaves left of it due to cold, But I have Never seen it to this extreme where the entire tree lost it's leaves at once, I also asked my Dad about it, and he said that he has also never seen this happen to this extreme, so it was a interesting experience.

1st Snow flakes & snow accumulation of the season.

Snow accumulation on our car. at Dusk Oct 10th.

We saw our 1st snowflakes of the season here across all over our 6 county area, Every reporting station reported light snow early this morning, The snow did come earlier then expected, most snow fell between 3AM and 5AM this morning, The snow formed along a cold front and was actually moderate at times, most places got between a quarter inch of snow and a half inch.

Black Eyed Susan plant covered in snow, Oct 10th in my experience, Normally this plant doesn't see much snow, it's normally long dried up before that.

Snow started at my location a little after 3AM with temps at 32.F-31.F and it actually became moderate for a short time, We also had some winds over 20MPH which kinda blew snow around. What is weird about this snow is, It was actually dry and powdery, normally in my experience I would think 1st snows are wet. reason for the dry fluffy snow is because shortly after if started to fall temps dropped into the upper 20s behind a cold front. The snow lasted a little over an hour at my location, and officially I measured 0.50" (Half Inch) of Snow. Snow quickly came to an end, skies became clear, temps dropped like a rock falling to 24.F on my station by sunrise.

Start of a Cold period late Thursday, Very Cold weekend With Snow chance Saturday, light accumulations possible! Deep Freeze likely.

Forecast map for Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

There is definitely a lot of weather to talk about coming up ahead this weekend. We got a start of a Very Cold spell starting late Thursday, this cold spell will last through the weekend, and even into next week. Highs will barely reach the upper 40s Friday and highs will struggle to reach the low 40s Saturday there is a chance a few spots might not make it out of the upper 30s!. It also appears we will have the chance to see our 1st snow of the season, it's not going to be much, but light accumulations are possible, But some spots could pick up as much as half inch of snow, any snow that would accumulate would not last too long at all, but it is big story because it may be our 1st snow and our 1st snow accumulation of the season. Deep Freeze is likely across the entire 6 county area lows will fall into the mid to upper 20s for several nights over the weekend into early next week starting Friday Night plants will not be able to be saved from temps this low.

The cold weather will start Thursday Night, as cold air starts to funnel in behind a cold front, but a small system will come through Friday Night and Saturday, right as we have this colder air over us, And this the system that has the chance to bring our 1st snow to the area Best chance of snow will be Late Friday Night and Saturday. It should mainly be snow showers but nothing too heavy, There may be some light accumulations mainly on roofs and grassy areas some spots could get up to an inch. This system will being another shot of even colder air starting Saturday and lasting through early next week. It appears like we will have several nights when the lows drop below freezing, lows could be as cold as the low 20s maybe even upper teens in some spots mainly Saturday Night. and again early next week, Places that have escaped a freeze last month will not miss this next one, So we have a Very cold stretch ahead. Detailed forecast below.

Thursday, Partly Sunny to Partly Cloudy, a bit breezy, highs in the low 50s, last warm day for awhile enjoy it! cooling off late in the day, Thursday Night, Colder, Partly Cloudy lows in the low 30s, some spots may fall to the upper 20s.

Friday, Very Cool, Sunny, Highs in the mid to upper 40s. Friday Night, Partly Cloudy then turning cloudier late, Friday Night Cold, Cloudy, with a chance of Light Snow late, Light accumulations possible. lows in the upper 20s.

Saturday Very Cool, Light Snow possible, light accumulations possible some places possible as much as 1 inch. otherwise cloudy in the afternoon, Highs only in the low 40s and upper 30s. Saturday Night, Cold, Deep Freeze Likely All areas, possible the coldest night of the season so far, lows in the low to mid 20s upper teens may be possible north.

Looking Ahead, It also now looks we will have another stronger system come in late Sunday Night and Monday that may bring another Snow Chance, this one needs to be watched closely, it has the chance to bring our 1st minor snow accumulations of the season. More details on this by Sunday, Night time temps will also be cold though out this weekend into early next week, 20s are likely everynight. a bit Warmer weather finally starting in by around Wednesday of next week.

Fall Color Photos, Nearing peak soon Fall Color Report.

Yellow Maples in the woods across from my house Oct 8th

Fall colors around Clayton, have really popped over the past week, seems like more and more color comes out everyday! Maples are peaking at there color, lots of Red and Yellow and orange can be seen in Maples, Ash trees are turning and quickly loosing leaves, Even late turning trees are showing signs of color, Oaks have a hint of color, and so do Aspens and Birch. In My yard, the Ash in the front has fully turned Yellow- Dark Purple and is starting to loose leaves, and our oaks are hinting at color, in the Backyard Our birch tree is Yellow, and the ash seems to be dropping leaves with out turning much of a color, This is why I've went with High Color on my fall color report, I feel that with in the next few days color will really be turning quickly. Lots of color showing in roadside trees. most of the reds in this picture coming from Maple trees.

last week this was still green with just a touch of color this week it has lots of color trees are really picking up the pace. One of my friends said that the color of the trees in this photo can be compared to a pack of candy life savers!

I really like the color is this tree, they were so bright in this little soft maple that I has to stop and take picture!

We are at high color currently here in Clayton and I feel peak color is not far off!

One last picture of some bright color in a soft maple tree once again, They really seem to have color this year, Taken Oct 7th.

Fall Color Report
Trees are quickly turning across the area, Grantsburg in Burnett County, Luck in Northern Polk County and Birchwood in Washburn county are all reporting Peak Color, While Spooner, my report here in Clayton and Rice Lake are reporting High Color, Even places like Hudson and Menomonie which were reporting Low color just 4 days ago are now reporting Moderate color, So Colors are great across the entire area, we have Moderate to Peak color.

Very wet start to Oct, more hefty rainfall totals across the area.

Rainy Weather Again October 6th!

The picture above pretty much explains the weather over the past 2 days, Rainy and Very Wet! We had our 2nd storm system in a row here, producing hefty rainfall totals across the area, This low was a bit stronger then I thought it would end out being, Rain started late Monday, light rain continued overnight and lasted All day Tuesday, some of the rain on Tuesday was heavy in some spots, You could just watch the entire area preip on radar spinning away because of how strong this system was. Wind was much lighter then it was last system but there was still a few gusts.

My Rain gauge Oct 6th this was taken at 5PM we ended out with a bit more then in this picture.

This is the rain gauge I use officially, and as you can see we really got rain here, I got a total amount of 3.37" inches, What is interesting is we are now Well over the normal October average for rain and it's only Oct 6th! but this is good news. The rain was the perfect type of rain steady and long lasting so it was perfect rain which will help a bit with lake and streams. and it is also helping us catching up a bit on our drought.

The heaviest totals from this system were in Southwest areas in places like New Richmond and Hudson. Those areas could have picked up well over 3.50 inches. but it seems like everyone got at least an inch in our 6 county area.

It looks like this system will move out a bit quicker then I first had forecasted, now I believe, we will get a nice break from the wet weather tomorrow, It also appears like we may even get some sunshine!, and temps will be warmer. Enjoy it because we have a Very cool air mass on the way for late week. More on this by Wednesday or early Thursday . when I release my next forecast.
