Cloudy and cooler weather, but turning sunny

Sugar Maple turning orange September 29Th

it has been cloudy and cool for the past 2 days but will that continue? it looks it will get sunny! things are clearing out this morning and looks like it might be sunny for the rest of today! A cold front past though overnight. which will bring cooler weather for the next few days. high temperatures over the next few days will be in the upper 50s and low 60s. lows will be in the low 40s to upper 30s north. Wednesday Night there may be a chance of patchy frost across the area as a high pressure system builds in, temperatures will be cooling into the mid 30s more on this by Wednesday. High pressure will insure sunny weather in the upcoming days! Fall Color in Maple trees has really increased over the weekend. most maple trees have color now, also Basswood trees are starting to turn yellow I've also seen a few yellow Birch trees.

here is my forecast guess looks like it will get sunny! but cold Wednesday Night.

Severe Storms hit Polk and Barron Counities

GRleavel3 Radar Image September 27Th
late last night Storms were strengthening over Amery and in Northern Barron County which caused a Severe Thunderstorm Warning to be issued. Shortly after 12:00AM the southern end of the line of storms move east and Strengthed directly over Clayton. what I saw at my house was nearly continuous cloud to cloud lighting and heavy rain but the main story was the pea sized to dime sized hail which covered our sidewalk and knocked leaves out of the trees. after the storm hit my area it continued to move east northeast hitting areas around Turtle Lake but the whole line of storms was effecting most of Barron county. the Cumberland area also saw Severe hail. here are the storm reports.
3 NW Cumberland 1.00 Hail
Cumberland 0.75 inch hail
Clayton 0.50 inch hail-many pea sized hailstones some were as large as dimes.

here is a photo of the hail the largest one is dime sized

this is a photo of some of the leaves that were knocked out by the hail, the hail knocked out many of the weaker leaves so now our yard is covered in yellow leaves driving around the area you can see lots of fresh colored leaves on the ground from hail.

Fall Color Report.

Yellow Ash Tree in our yard September 26th

fall color is slowly become more and more noticeable around the area. every county in the area is reporting Low Color 26-50% expect St Croix County. Around Clayton. I've Noticed Sugar Maple trees are now starting to change orange and red, I've also seen some yellow in maples. Some Elm trees are turning yellow, Ash trees that have turned last weak are turning brown and are losing leaves fast. our lawn is already covered in leaves from our ash trees. looking father away from the area. Some places in Wisconsin in Sawyer county are already at peak color- 100% so this may mean were not far behind. I would Put the Clayton area at Low Color 21% for current reports from the Clayton area, I will keep an undated report on the side bar. and for current fall color reports from other counties in the area please go to: http://www.travelwisconsin.com/fallcolor_report.aspx

here is a photo of an orange Sugar maple. taken September 26th

strong storms hit the area comparing to last years fall color to this years

Shelf cloud moving over Clayton September 23rd

Strong storms hit the area last night. a gust front moved along the thunderstorms winds of 30-35 MPH were reported in Amery...Osceola and Balsam Lake areas. a Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued for northwest Polk County for Strong winds.,no reports of damage. Here we also had the gusty winds. strong enough to blow some leaves out of the trees before they were fully changed. and to blow dirt off of the newly plowed field. Heavy Rainfall was also an issue most places got at least half an inch from these storms. here are some rainfall reports from highest to lowest. Amery: 1.10 Clayton: 1.00 Spooner: 0.69 Frederic: 0.66 New Richmond: 0.60 Siren: 0.55 Rice Lake: 0.54 Menomonie: 0.53 so all places got at some rain! which we really did need. now for weather over the next few days. It will be warming up and getting more humid by Thursday also there is a slight chance of Showers and Thunderstorms, it will be getting into the mid 70s by Thursday even warmer by Friday it should be mostly sunny with highs getting into the upper 70s to low 80s! chance of thunderstorms by Friday night.

Different in fall colors from last year.
September 23rd 2007

September 24th 2008
These is my best photos to show how this years fall color is later then last year! the big difference is the tree on the left in each photo. last year it was fully turned by this time and this year only the top is fully turned. Even in the distance you can see the trees are more green this year this time then last year. Judging by these photos I would say where about only one week late hopefully this helped show what the difference is!

here is my forecast guess. sunshine and rain is in it! keep watching my blog, I will have fall color updates soon!

Slight Risk of Severe Thunderstorms

Image from http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/

There is a slight risk of Severe Thunderstorms this afternoon. After showers this morning there should be breaks in the cloud cover allowing for the hemisphere to become unstable. Severe Thunderstorms are forecasted for form along and ahead of a passing cold front, the main threats with the severe storms will be large hail and damaging winds. communities most likely to see the severe weather will be west of a line from Wilson and Glenwood City north to Clayton and Hertel. also Very Heavy Rain is possible with this system some areas could get as much as 2 inches of rain across the area. Keep and eye out for Severe Thunderstorms today.

Above Normal Temps, Turning Wetter.

Yellow Ash Tree September 22nd

It is now officially Fall, but it will be more summer like this week. for Monday high temperatures will be reaching near 80 in some locations of the south! upper 70s everywhere else. Tonight there will be a chance of Showers and Thunderstorms late in the night, with nightime lows only dropping into the 60s. Tuesday will be cooler with a better chance of Showers and Storms with a cold front. some of the thunderstorms could be strong to even Severe. updates on this later. Wednesday looks cooler and cloudy, with highs in the mid 70s.

Fall Colors are continuing to show around Clayton, but with the warm weather, the color season has slowed. Still Ash trees is the main color you will see, but Maples are now really beginning to show colors . The ash tree in our front yard has changed to a yellow-orange color. and now the ash tree in our backyard is beginning to show some yellow color. Sumac has turned to a red color. Maples are also turning. I've seen red and Orange in maple trees, although there are some earlier changing trees in color, most color you see on trees is green at this time, I would say were at 18% color. The neat thing is when I look at photos taken at this same date last year there was much more color closer too 50% this time last year. one thing that is making a difference is we have not had a hard frost yet this season unlike last year, when we had at least one hard frost by this time. looks we will continue to go without a hard frost, I'm starting to think we just may get though September without one! well at least this week fore sure! enjoy the warm weather.

Tuesday might be a bigger weather day, It looks like there is a good chance of thunderstorms, some could be strong to severe I will have updates on this. Tuesday highs will be in the lower to middle 70s.

Fall colors are just begining to show in the Oshkosh area, Check out OSNW3 for updates on fall color, and weather in that area! http://osnw3.blogspot.com/

Weekend forecast!

here is a photo of my Bald Cypress Tree. September 19Th

Sunshine and above normal temperatures is what will have for the weather this weekend across the area. although there is a slight chance of Thunderstorms Saturday with a cold front that will be moving south across the area. Highs will be in the upper 60s to low 70s north, with mid 70s in the south both days! Night time lows on Saturday night may actually be cold in the northerly locations where it could become as cool as the upper 30s in cooler spots, the cool air will be caused by some fresh cool, air behind a cold front. Although there is a chance of rain, all places should see Sunshine Saturday. Sunday also looks sunny warm and nice without rain chances.
this was a hard forecast guess. Saturday a cold front will sweep though and bring a chance of showers and thunderstorms all across the area then, cool temps lows in the low 50s in the southern counties and low 40s north, Saturday night, get out there an enjoy the summer like weather and the starting of the fall colors!!

Sunny and mild temeptures!

clear skies with a hint of ash tree colors September 17th

Clear Skies, Sunny weather and warm temps has been the weather conditions for the past 2 days! Expect sunshine and mild temperatures to continue though the rest of this week! daytime high temperatures should be in the low to mid 70s, and nigh time lows in the 50s! so looks nice weather ahead, it appears like it Will last though the last weekend of the Summer season, as the first day of Fall, calender-wise starts on Monday.

Image from http://www.foliagenetwork.com/

Fall Colors are slowly being to show even more. one of the ash trees in our lawn is slowly turning to a purple/reddish color. You can actually see some colors from Ash trees on the blog post photo above, Ash trees are earlier changing trees. Here is a map of the a fall color report for the Midwest as you can see there are many isolated spots reporting low color. in Northwest Wisconsin, it looks like eastern areas would likely have some color, places like Rice Lake, Menomonie and Spooner may have about 20-25% color even less father west, I would say that there is about 10 to 15% color at my location. all we need is cool not freezing nights and warm sunny days to get the best fall color display later this month/early Oct. please visit http://www.foliagenetwork.com/ for the current information about fall colors!

here is my forecast guess, looking even father out then this forecast guess. it looks like sunny weather may continue all the way though Monday!! This weekend is looking great, with Sunshine and nice warm temperatures in the mid to upper 70s!

Frist Signs of fall color showing, sunny weather ahead

Maples changing color September 14th 2008

Some signs of Fall color have are starting to show up in some of the earlier changing trees. Fall color around Clayton is spotty at this time and if look out on the landscape you will mostly green, but some isolated trees like Maple and Ash have started to change colors! a look at the Fall colors reports for Northwest Wisconsin shows that all areas only have spotty color right now, But in about 3 weeks There should be alot of fall color out there! Last year in this same week many trees were being to show signs of alot of color, so frist fall colors is little later then last year, but unlike last year we have not yet had a hard frost. Weather over the past weekend was very wet for a change, we had clouds mist and rain showers all day on Saturday, we picked up .28 of rain. and more showers fore casted for late Sunday. Monday should bring weather changes! Sunny weather should take over. and we may have a long stretch of sunny days Temperatures will start off cool in the 60s for daytime highs and low 40s for nightime lows mid to upper 30s possible in the North tonight. then by Wednesday up into the mid 70s to possible some upper 70s for daytime highs and low 50s for nightime lows. I will continue have updates about the fall color in Northwest Wisconsin every so often in the upcoming weeks!

here is my forecast guess for the being of this week! enjoy the sunny weather ahead!

Heavy Rainfall hits the area. Forecast for this weekend

Heavy Rain September11Th

Starting early this morning heavy rain showers and thunderstorms formed in Eastern Minnesota and moved parts of the area, then in the late morning hours another round of very heavy rain moved though. Some places got most rainfall amounts in one day then they have seen in months! it was a heavy long soaking rain that many corn fields and gardens needed!! not every location got the heavy rains, actually it looks like the highest rainfall totals were in southeastern Polk County and central Dunn county here is some rainfall totals across the area starting with Clayton. We got 1.56" inches of rain! here at Clayton, that's more then all of August's monthly total!!! Amery got 0.96" along with Menomonie. New Richmond reported 0.65" and up at Siren they got 0.27"

here is my forecast guess. I did something different. Instead of adding Saturday Nights forecast i added Sundays Forecast, hope every going to the Amery Fall Festival this weekend has a great time!

Frost Overnight, Crops and Plants Unharmed. Warming Up This Week

Mums September 9Th

We had our first Frost of the season last night here at Clayton. The frost was light, and patchy. frost did not even form in our lawn, where buildings and trees kept it protected also, corn is unharmed so the growing season is still hanging on! as you can see in the photo above! Some places got quite cold though, Clayton ( my place ) had 39.F for the overnight low. Amery dipped all the way down to 35.F Osceola even cooler, they went down to 34.F. Rice Lake reported 36.F New Richmond reported 38.F. even down in the southern counties in got cold Menomonie reported 39.F Woodville was the coolest spot in the south, where it reached 34.F Hudson was the warmest spot in the whole area, they only went down too 43.F now for some northern reports Spooner reported 35.F and Siren reported 36.F so overall it was a cold night across the area.
here is my forecast guess. may get some good rainfall Thursday, and winds will be gusty Wednesday so enjoy Tuesdays sunshine!

Patchy Frost Possible Tonight!!!

Image from http://www.crh.noaa.gov/wxstory.php?site=mpx

There is a chances for isolated Showers and Thunderstorms today, with a low pressure trough passing by. chances for showers will linger into this evening then, most places will have clearing skies, this will cause the temps to drop to the upper 30s and low 40s Patchy Frost may form. patchy frost is possible in most of the 6 county area. southwest St Croix and Dunn counties have less of a chance for patchy frost, but it's still possible if skies become totally clear, the chance for widespread frost is not out of the question. There is no Frost Advisory issued yet but, Take in any houseplants and annuals you may want just in case!

Warmer weather is fore casted in the upcoming days, low 70s by Wednesday.

here is my forecast guess. Turing nice by Tuesday!

Clayton Blackout, Frist Annual U-Can-Do It 5k run at Clayton Saturday.

High above Clayton on our rooftop September 5Th

Last night around 9:20PM the power went out, The Cause was an explostion. a Transformer blew out, and the Most Village of Clayton was without power, including my block. the only part of town that had power was the north of highway 63. when I looked to the west toward town from our roof top, you can normally see a few lights, and the light from the town street lamps reflecting off the white water tower. but when I looked out there last night it was completely dark! the only light I could see was on the south side of Lake Magnor, and a radio tower which is miles out of town. shortly after the power went out, There was quite a bit of traffic out on our street, ( Polk Barron St ) plus there was big crews trucks with yellow lights on top driving around, they pasted our house 4 times. The power stayed out for 3 and a half hours!! from 9:20 up until nearly Midnight!

The First Annual U-Can-Do-It! will be held this weekend by the Clayton New Development Organization, called Clayton Can-Do. the U-Can-Do-It is a 5k run or walk which will be be a fun-raiser for community activities! Registration is a 9AM at the Bank parking lot in downtown Clayton! Drinks and T-Shirts will be handed out along the way! Please come and join to help benefit Clayton area Activities!

Here is my forecast guess, there will be several systems pass though this weekend, so there will be chances for rain most of the weekend, but we need it so bring on the rain!

Remains of Hurricane Gustav effect Northwest Wisconsin

The Cloud cover you seen this morning is from the remains of Hurricane Gustav! there is also even light east winds! While we have the cloud cover, Southern and Eastern Wisconsin are getting the heavy rain. but it not just there that is effected by the rain, there is a huge swath of rain from Missouri to Indiana back to Michigan then west into Iowa!! There is even some Lake Shore Flood Statements issued for the counties surrounding southern Lake Michigan for Strong Northeast winds that will cause strong rip currents. So this is proof that the remains of some hurricanes can effect Wisconsin, even Northwest Wisconsin! although it does not happen that often! Yesterday the forecast called for Sunshine but now it looks like these clouds will stick around. though there might be some clearing, especially in the Western counties. Cloudy conditions may even stick around though Friday. then Chances of Rain increase this weekend. there is a chance of rain from tomorrow night though Monday! it will also be cool with temperature only around the upper 60s to 70!

Strong Storms Yesterday, Cooler Weather Rest of The Week

Strong Storms pushed though the area yesterday afternoon, even some Severe Storms. The Severe Storms went though the Danbury, Minong areas. Strong winds of 60 MPH were possible in thoughts storms, no damage reports there, but trees were reported down in Iron River, in Douglas county. Here in the South, there were scattered strong storms. One strong storm formed over Star Prairie then it moved northeast hitting Clear Lake, and then Clayton head on. We got two tenths of an inch of rain in about 12 minutes! there was also some very gusty winds. as you can see in the video above, it was taken in the worst part of the storm. other areas got Strong storms, there was another Strong line of storms in Southern St Croix and Dunn counties near Baldwin and then moving east to Colfax.

Cooler weather is fore casted for the rest of the week. high temps will be in the upper 60s to low 70s for the rest of the week! With Sunshine Today, Tuesday and lasting into Friday next chance of rain comes Saturday, then even cooler weather.

here is a photo of the Strong Storm that hit Clayton, this was as the storm was pushing into town. the clouds were moving very fast!
here is my forecast guess for Thursday Though Friday, enjoy the cooler weather!

Slight Chances of Severe Storms Tuesday

Slight chance of a few Severe Thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon, with a Strong cold front plowing though the area. The main threats with the severe weather would be hail and wind. Temperatures will be cooled down 10 degrees with this front, along with gusty west to northwest winds, after the front pulls though.

Turning Sunny and cooler Wednesday into Thursday with cooler drier conditions.
