A strong spring-like low pressure system effected the area Monday and Tuesday, It brought the first rain of the new year and some places the first thunderstorms! it Also brought the highest temperatures of the season so far, on early Tuesday. On Monday afternoon A line of moderate showers, and even some light thunder in some places, moved though the area, Dirk Northwest of Rice Lake reported Thunder! There was no thunder here in Clayton, but we did get a moderate shower from this line, There was not a huge amount of rain from this system, most places got under 0.15, I picked up 0.08 here so far.
Ditch flooding on our street.
The snowpack took a major hit across the area, here in Clayton, we started out with 6 inches before the storm hit, and now just 2 inches remain, with many brown patches in our yard and in the fields, It was amazing how fast the snowcover went, it pretty much went overnight it seems! all this melting snow caused water from the hills and fields to flow here at the corner of our driveway, the Calvert is plugged with ice and snow, so it cannot drain out. There must be over 3 feet of water in the middle, This is the highest I can remember the water getting in this spot, it was too the road when I took this photo, soon it will be flowing over our driveway.
This system pulled up some very mild air with it, Especially Early Tuesday, most places reached there highest levels of the season so far, We reached the mid to upper 40s, even places in the north reached the low 40s, one report I found was 50.F! It was very spring like day, but everyone knows, it wont last, I mean it is February! Temps will cool down but will not get too cold, it looks like we will cool back down to low 30s for highs and 10s and 20s for lows. with a couple of Light snow chances, Tomorrow. Here are the Temperature reports from Early Tuesday, These temps get me in the spring mood!
