looking a bit warmer this weekend Much warmer by Monday

Weathermap for Saturday, Saturday Night, Sunday and Sunday Night.

Weather for this weekend will be Dry after Thursdays snowstorm. it will be cool for this time of year due to a northwest flow behind the storm. Saturday there may be some clouds, but I think mainly it will be partly cloudy. with it warming up slightly more Sunday especially due to the warm March Sun. don't forget March 1st is on Sunday! my Detailed forecast guess below.

Saturday, Warmer then Friday was, Partly cloudy, with light winds and highs in the upper 10 to very low 20s. Saturday Night, cool and Partly cloudy, I made a misteak in forecasting the lows for Saturday Night, I was accidently looking at the models for Friday night. The real lows for Saturday Night will be falling below zero, into the low -10s to upper -0s single digits below zero. this is kinda confusing so I'll add some Numbers between -9.F and -6.F.

Sunday, slightly warmer Sunshine, with highs in the upper 10s to very low 20s with light winds. Sunday Night, Warmer, partly cloudy with lows mainly staying Above zero. some places may fall just below zero.

Look ahead forecast into a warmer forecast! it will get Much warmer by Monday, Monday will be the start of much warmer weather, it will warm to the upper 20s and starting on Tuesday it looks like we will climb near freezing then above freezing by Wednesday and continue into Thursday, then it looks like a slight cool down into next weekend before temps go back up. It looks like this could be the beginning of our Spring season Thaws.

Please see my System report for Thursday Below

Thursdays snowstorm report.

Big snowdrift in our Front yard.

A strong system pushed though the area on Thursday. it seemed like it took a while for the snow to start, but once it did it got heavy, and it got heavy fast. To me, this storm seemed like a spring like snowstorm, because the snow was wet-like in nature. The snow started in the afternoon, it started off as some light snow but it quickly turned into very heavy snow, falling at an inch per hour for a time. During the most intense part of the storm at about 2PM Thunder rumbled across much of Polk, Barron, St Croix and Dunn counties, and I heard the first Thunder of the season here in Clayton. ( more about the Thundersnow below ) winds across the entire area were blowing to near 30MPH at times out of the northeast, which made many tall drifts. The one in the picture above was 2 feet deep. Most places had between 6 and just of 8 inches of snow. Here is a list of the reports This photo here was taken During the Thundersnow. I heard 2 Rumbles of Thunder during this system. I heard the first one at 2:00PM, I was out shoveling snow, when I heard a very long distance thunder, which I found was Very nice to hear! I was watching The radar, and it appeared that the Thunder was from a strike that was in Northern Pierce County which is about 30 miles south of here. this means that there was likely Thunder all across St Croix,Dunn and Polk and Barron counties. Then just before 3PM I heard and felt two loud rumbles of Thunder, from inside the house, I quickly ran to the door and I opened it just in time to hear Crackling Thunder. Then I checked it out of the radar and This strike was much closer. It was directly south of our house and it appeared to be centered over the St Croix County, Polk County line. which is 7 and a half miles south of here. This means that likely most of the 6 county area go Thunder. Dirk in Rice Lake also reported Thundersnow and even a Thunderstorm at his location. Watching the strikes on Radar and seeing much of the lightning in Peirce and St Croix Counties I would definitely believe that just about everyone got Thundersnow in Polk Barron Dunn and St Croix Counties. probably even southern Burnett and Washburn continuities!
here is a photo showing the wet-like nature that the snow was. Today Expect Sunshine, it wont feel too bad without the wind but highs will be only in the teens. it will warm up more tomorrow more on this in a bit.

Winter Storm Coming Thursday, Heavy Snow likely

Weathermap is based on the Models and my thinking at 10:13AM Wednesday, the outcome of this storm may be different then what you see here.

A fast moving Winter Storm will impact the entire 6 county area Thursday. accumulating snow is likely. Judging by the models it could become Heavy at times. snow accumulations I think at this time will be between 5 and 7 inches areas south of a line from Grantsburg to Sarona. a bit less north of there with 4 to 6 inches. I do think there will be some isolated spots that could get near 9 inches of snow. But I think most areas will see 5-7 to 4-6. it will also become windy, with northeast winds gusting to near 30MPH This will cause some blowing and drifting snow, Travle is not a good idea becuase high snow accumulations, windy conntintions and blowing and drifting snow all look likely Thursday and Thursday evening. Forcast below.

Today it will mainly be cloudy with highs apporching near 40.F enjoy it becuase it wont last.

Thursday, A very good chance of snow in the afternoon, May become Moderate to heavy later visibilities will be low with gusty northeast winds to near 30 MPH which will cause blowing and drifting snow. high temps in the upper 20s. Thursday Night, A very good chance of snow, Moderate to heavy at times, mainly early. lows cooling though the night, may end up just below or above zero. Snow accumulations by the time this storm ends will be between 4 to 7 inches. with some isolated spots up to 9 inches.

Friday Cooler, partly sunny with a bit of clearing. Highs in the upper teens. Friday Night, partly to mostly cloudy. lows just below zero for all areas.

Also effected by this Winter Storm are OSNW3 in Oshkosh-eastern Wis, Weatherscout in the Milwaukee area-southeastern Wis, and Dirk in our area from Rice Lake- Northwestern Wis. please vist there blogs for information and photos from this storm in there areas.

Todays weather will be sunny and not too bad with not much wind, look for highs in the low 20s. lows tonight in the teens.

looks like weather for the next to days will be mild, with a small system that will hit the area Tuesday Night and Wednesday. this system has the chance to bring rain or snow to all of the area, but the best chance of this will be in the North. it will cool off Starting Wednesday night.

Tuesday Warmer, possible starting off sunny, but then clouding over. highs in the low to mid 30s Tuesday Night, A slight chance of rain or snow, with best chances north. lows will be mid in the low 20s

Wednesday a bit warmer then Tuesday, with a slight chance of rain or snow early, then staying cloudy. highs in the low to mid 30s Wednesday Night, cooler moves in. mainly cloudy with lows in the teens to 20s

Forecast ahead. looks like weather will be will be Cool with some good chances at some snow Thursday, then it turns drier. it will be especially cool on Friday, with Arctic air in place and highs in the high 10s. then it slowly warms up over the weekend it also looks dry right now for the weekend it will continue to warm up though Monday with highs nearing the 30.F mark. Might get even warmer ahead of this! but these things could always change. I will have the forecast for this as we get closer.

Snowfall reports from Friday-Saturday system.

that Back of our house in the fresh Winter looking snow. if you look carefully at the top of the house, you can see my 2 wind gauges spinning away!

I thought its been awhile since I posted photos, so I decided to post about this past system. looks like that system did effect the area instead of going west. The snow started Friday afternoon and lasted though Saturday morning. it was steady and light and not heavy at all. The type of snow is dry and powdery with little snowflakes. There was not much wind with this so far. most places got between the 1 to 3 inch category here are some reports so far!

Snow System for Tuesday Night and Wednesday, then cooler

Weathermap for Tuesday, Tuesday Night, Wednesday and Wednesday Night.

There will be a strong system passing by to the south, which will effect our area. but the brunt of it looks to hit places like La Crosse to Oshkosh, where I know OSNW3, who lives in Oshkosh,WI I will be keeping an eye on his snowfall totals, everyone please see OSNW3 Blog for info on this storm in that area. Most of the heaviest snows will go south of our area, but there will be some minor accumulations around here. Especially in the south, and eastern areas. It now looks like The best chance for snow will be Tuesday Night and Wednesday, snow might come down moderate at times and it Also looks like winds will be gusty. Accumulations, there will be 1 to 2 to up to 3 inches of accumulation for areas like Menomonie to Hudson. North to Barron, Cameron to Rice Lake, Even less farther north and west, looks like around one an inch to 1.50 for places like and Siren and Spooner. Temps will be mild at first but then get cooler Wednesday night with a passing cold font.

Very Spring-like System, in the middle of Feb!

Picture showing how much snow remains, much of it melted overnight, during this entire system we lost 4 inches of snow! in a quick time. The Snowcover was average out to 2.0 Inches when this photo was taken please see Current Clayton,WI Snowcover for info in the current snowdepth.

A strong spring-like low pressure system effected the area Monday and Tuesday, It brought the first rain of the new year and some places the first thunderstorms! it Also brought the highest temperatures of the season so far, on early Tuesday. On Monday afternoon A line of moderate showers, and even some light thunder in some places, moved though the area, Dirk Northwest of Rice Lake reported Thunder! There was no thunder here in Clayton, but we did get a moderate shower from this line, There was not a huge amount of rain from this system, most places got under 0.15, I picked up 0.08 here so far.

Ditch flooding on our street.

The snowpack took a major hit across the area, here in Clayton, we started out with 6 inches before the storm hit, and now just 2 inches remain, with many brown patches in our yard and in the fields, It was amazing how fast the snowcover went, it pretty much went overnight it seems! all this melting snow caused water from the hills and fields to flow here at the corner of our driveway, the Calvert is plugged with ice and snow, so it cannot drain out. There must be over 3 feet of water in the middle, This is the highest I can remember the water getting in this spot, it was too the road when I took this photo, soon it will be flowing over our driveway.

This system pulled up some very mild air with it, Especially Early Tuesday, most places reached there highest levels of the season so far, We reached the mid to upper 40s, even places in the north reached the low 40s, one report I found was 50.F! It was very spring like day, but everyone knows, it wont last, I mean it is February! Temps will cool down but will not get too cold, it looks like we will cool back down to low 30s for highs and 10s and 20s for lows. with a couple of Light snow chances, Tomorrow. Here are the Temperature reports from Early Tuesday, These temps get me in the spring mood!

Strong storm system for Monday

This is one of the hardest forecasts I ever made, so please bear with me on this one! this weather map is for Monday, Monday Night, Tuesday and Tuesday night.

A strong storm system will begin to move in early Monday and this system will bring in many different types of weather. it will start off as Freezing Rain, then in the afternoon it will change over to spring-like rain showers, There will even be the chance of  some Thunder with this! Rain also may possibly be moderate at times in the afternoon. we may get as much as s half inch of rain, with this system so there may be some minor flooding, because of the melting snowpack and new rainfall Winds will be strong out of the southeast. The snowpack will be shrinking fast Monday and Tuesday There may not be much snow on the ground after this storm is over.

Monday: Windy, Freezing rain early, freezing rain lasting longest in the north. Frz Rain changing over to plain rain showers in the afternoon, Some thunder is possible, Highs will be mild in the low 40s.  Monday Night: Rain, with the chance for thunder earlier, lows staying above freezing, rain may be moderate at times, as much as half an inch of rain is possible by the time the systems ends.

Tuesday: Windy, chance of precipitation early, then skies staying mostly to partly cloudy, Highs reaching the 40.F mark. Tuesday Night: cloudy, with lows in the 20s, wind switching northwest.

I will be reporting the rainfall and snow depth here from my house I will also report current weather conditions in the ( current Clayton Snowpack ), so check back often for updates from here, I will also make a post when the system is passed.

Nice for the weekend! messy on Monday?

weather map for Saturday, Saturday Night, Sunday and Sunday Night.

Tonight there is a chance of light freezing drizzle all across the area, it will not amount to that much, but still be careful on the roadways.

This weekend looks like it will be mild, and mostly dry. Saturday: we will have partly sunny to partly cloudy skies, There may be some left over freezing drizzle early but it will end. Looks like highs will make it into the upper 30s with some places reaching the 40s! before a cool front will move though, dropping temps down a bit, this front will move though sometime late in the day. Saturday Night: skies will be cloudier but should become partly cloudy later. The cool front will flow in some cooler air, our lows will drop into the mid teens above zero overnight.

Sunday: we should have partly cloudy to sunny skies! with a High pressure system nearby, even with the Sunshine, highs will not be as warm as Saturday will be, Expect highs to be in the low 30s across the areas, maybe even some mid 30s in warmer spots. Sunday Night: The beginning of a messy system will effect the area late Sunday Night, it looks as though there will be a slight chance of freezing rain late, with lows staying in the 20s.

looking ahead to Mondays System, a fairly strong system will effect the area, but most of this system will effect the area as plain rain. Right now it looks like it will start off as a mix of freezing rain or sleet, but as it warms up to near 40 it will then change over to all rain during the afternoon. This could cause flooding, because of this thick snowpack across the area, warm temps and rain will cause , rapid snowmelt, this could cause some flooding. this all depends on how much rain we get. This is something to watch closely, there is a chance that there may even be the *chance* for thunder with this, if the system is strong enough, more on Mondays system by Sunday.

Turning Warmer

weather map for Thursday Thursday Night Friday and Friday Night

Looks like we will have mild and dry weather for the next 2 days, with some sunshine. A high pressure should keep clouds away, as temperatures get into the 30s the next 2 days. The Jet is moving north of the area and we will be under a ridge of warmer air.

Thursday: Partly cloudy, It will be much warmer then it was on Wednesday, Highs will reach the very low 30s, Northern areas may hold onto some upper 20s. Thursday Night: staying partly cloudy, lows will stay in the teens above zero, and it will stay dry.

Friday: it will be Partly cloudy its really going to warm up, all areas should make it into the low to mid 30s, If not some places reaching near 40 in the south. Friday Night: there will be a slight chance of light snow or freezing drizzle, it does like look like it will amount to much, the chance is low at this time. Temps will be staying in the middle 20s to 30 for the night.

A sneak peak ahead to the weekend shows still that slight chance of precipitation early Saturday, Temperatures will stay mild. highs will be in the 30s with lows in the 20s both days might even be some sun one of thoughts days. Mild temps look to hold until Tuesday next week with the weather pattern becoming more active. A more detailed forecast for the weekend coming up by Friday.

Cold though Tuesday warming up Wednesday but even warmer Thursday?

weather map for Tuesday, Tuesday night, Wednesday and Wednesday night.

Tonight, there will be a chance for some flurries as a system is passing to the north. it will be cold with lows below zero or just above.

Tuesday, Skies will be partly sunny to partly cloudy, The best chance of some sun will be south because of a system passing to the north, there may be some flurries in the far north. Highs will be in the upper single digits, with a cold northwest wind. Tuesday Night looks to be the coldest night of the week, lows will in the single digits below zero, some places may reach the lower -10s below zero.

Wednesday will be warmer with Partly cloudy to sunny skies, due to a high pressure system taking over. Winds will turn southerly and Highs will make it into the mid to upper teens. Wednesday Night it will be partly cloudy, with lows in the low teens and yes that's above zero! it looks like we will be going though some temperature changes as we move onto Thursday.

looking ahead into Thursday, warmer air will flow into the area, and it looks in highs will be near freezing it also looks like it will be sunny at this point, even a bit warmer for Friday, this warm air looks to hold on for awhile possible all the way though Tuesday of next week! along with this warmer air, the weather pattern will become more active, more on the warmer air soon.
