This post is dedicated to my hometown, Clayton,Wisconsin.
Your looking at a photo of downtown Clayton, on Prentice street, some of these buildings are over 100 years old! Today marks the celebration of Clayton being a village for 100 years! Now I would like to mention This is a celebration for the town being Incorporated as a community for 100 years,
Here is a bit of history.
The village was in Incorporated in October of 1909, but the town was here long before that. Clayton became a town because of a sawmill which was set up along lake Camellia, They actually floated logs all the way to Amery up a small creek, then down small river. The town Clayton was actually named after Clayton Rogers who was a the boss of the sawmill on Camellia lake. when the town was in the planning process Worthy Prentice mapped out the village, Because of this, The main street though town Prentice Ave, was named after him.
you can clearly tell even today, where the train went though the village, west of the location in this photo, Some These buildings were likely built in the before 1890.
Parade/Celebration Photos
Here is a photo of the parade along Prentice Street. The parade was long this year, Before the parade starts. they line up along 80Th ave and then it goes though town. This year the line went so far back, it passed to Barron/Polk County line! They had most Main streets into town closed for this event! This is a sign the area business Wheels and Deals had specially put up on there parade float this year for the 100Th. I found this sign funny! This is a sign Bergmann's Greenhouse another big area business had up for the celebration.
Thankyou for reading my post about the village of Clayton 100 year celebration. Don't forget to stop at the Tractor-Truck pull in town Saturday, and the Demo derby Sunday!
