Iowa Weather & Gardening: I'm Derek McKay I'm 23 I have always lived in the Upper Midwest, I grew up in the town of Clayton,WI and I currently live in Des Moines,IA My hobbies are weather, but my passion as well as my career is in the horticultural field. My education consists of a degree in horticulture which I received at UCR in Rochester,MN. I am a very outgoing person very involved in the community and volunteering. I've loved weather and gardening for as long as I can remember,but I became highly involved with the weather after the June 2001 strait line wind event of Northern Wisconsin. In Dec 2007 I was inspired to start a weather blog and since I've started it I have covered several areas of the Upper Midwest. I currently forecast for The Prairie and blufflands of Central and Southern Iowa.I use my blog as an outlet to post about weather and talk about my passion for plants combined!

Blog Description

I created this blog in Winter of 2008, when I forecasted for my hometown area of Northwest Wisconsin area for 3 years, now I live in Southern Iowa and I will use this blog serve the residents of Des Moines and surrounding areas. I made this blog to cover in good detail of every weather event that comes comes to the area. I will also use it to provide weather forecasts that focuses just on a 7 county area in Southern Iowa. The order in which I post things will include the issuing of forecasts, then follow up storm reports. The forecasts are to serve the residents with a forecast for planning purposes. They are not meant to be a life saving forecasts, and should not be treated as such. Second in order is I do follow-ups I post on most weather events that takes place. First part of each post focuses on the area as a hole, and then the second part focuses on my area, if there any weather occurred. This was created, so that I or my family may look back in the future to see what happened in our areas in past storms. I occasionally post useful information about the care of plants as well following my horticulturist hobby. I will state, this is a personal blog that contains forecasts, follow ups, and reports that are my own thoughts and some of which are from other sources. Any pictures, images, and information from other sources will be labeled as such and links provided. I am not a professional forecaster, I've been doing it as a hobby since I was very young, and I make no claims to be a professional forecaster, and this blog is an amateur undertaking.
