Iowa Weather & Gardening: I'm Derek McKay I'm 23 I have always lived in the Upper Midwest, I grew up in the town of Clayton,WI and I currently live in Des Moines,IA My hobbies are weather, but my passion as well as my career is in the horticultural field. My education consists of a degree in horticulture which I received at UCR in Rochester,MN. I am a very outgoing person very involved in the community and volunteering. I've loved weather and gardening for as long as I can remember,but I became highly involved with the weather after the June 2001 strait line wind event of Northern Wisconsin. In Dec 2007 I was inspired to start a weather blog and since I've started it I have covered several areas of the Upper Midwest. I currently forecast for The Prairie and blufflands of Central and Southern Iowa.I use my blog as an outlet to post about weather and talk about my passion for plants combined!
